If you are getting 6-8 mpg something is wrong. What were the conditions you were towing in? 100mph headwind? 30,000lbs etc.

What truck do you have? I have an '05 Duramax. I got 14.6 empty new, it's gone up to 15.1 now. Towing an 8000# trailer I get about 13.0

2005 Chevy Dax with auto no mod. to this truck.. I just check it again and you do the math 300 miles and 43 gals of fuel = 6.97 miles a gal..I tow froma 22 ft open trailer with 3 Grasshopper mowers on it.. I tow a 38 ft gooseneck with a Ts90 Newholland tractor on it... I also tow a 24ft inclosed trailer with a alot of Racing Gokart stuff in it.. I know forsure i can put it with the Dodge at 75 to 90 mph and get 13 this chevy tow it at 55 to 65 mph it should get better that 6 or 7 mpg.. By the way the Dodge was bone stock too.Max speed with the chevy I can get towing is 68 flat on the floor..

Something is wrong for sure. You should be getting better mileage and you should also be able to go faster then 68.

Take ti to the dealer. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gif

do you really put in 43 gallons of fuel when you fill up? I thought our tanks only hold 34 gallons? If you have no mods to your truck then you've got the stock tank right? You've gotta have your numbers mixed up.

Welcome to my world x 2. My dealer says theres nothing wrong with either of my trucks. They are both 3500's.

theirs something seriously wrong with them trucks. i tow often and i will tell you right now these trucks will pull allot faster than 68 mph.

i pulled around 11k one weekend on a 300 mile trip and got 13-14 mpg and i was horesing around. got 13 the next weeked with a 10 k load and i was really horseing around.

i would take it to a differnt dealer.

what to do is call gm. they will take care of you. just keep complaining to gm them selves they will deffinetly take care of you. but dont let this problem stick around to long or else they will say you should of called earlier

do you really put in 43 gallons of fuel when you fill up? It's a Cab and Chassie 3500.. and it has 2 tanks and they hold 50 gals total....

I've also got a fuel millage problem when towing, try 8.5 mpg with the cruse set at 77mph. Yes I know 77 mph is a bit fast for good mileage but its about the same mileage as when I do 65 mph.

I called Chevy and they said empty (no towing) 10 mpg city and 12 mpg highway is what is considered proper mileage for the 04.5 LLY Duramax.

I find that hard to believe.

Here is my trailer I tow, let me know what you all think about my mileage with this trailer.

What? that is nuts.. my old 6.0 got 10mpg no matter what and my 04.5 LLY now gets at least 14 city and at least 17 highway. Pulling car and trailer I honestly have not seen a difference.

there is for sure something wrong somewhere and I think that dealer is talking about a 6.0L or something..that makes more sense.

LOL - youve got to be kidding me about that trailer set up and only
getting the mileage youve listed, thats just plain silly. who
ever gave you those mileage numbers dont know what theyre talking about
at all !!! im lifted and get 14-15 city and 18-20 hwy, towing my
toy hauler, 9k-12k depending on conditions i get anywhere from 10-12,
again depending on conditions, average is about 11.4, and i have 2000
miles out of 8000 on truck as towing mileage

I bought my LLY in Late September. It is a 2500 HD 2wd, CCB LB w/ 3.73 gears. I have yet to haul a load, however I make a 45 mile one way daily commute across Houston with mild start and stop traffic. Traveling usually 65-70 mph I am averaging 18 mpg. My best mileage was on the first tank, it went down about 3 mpg on the next three tanks, and is now starting to come back up. I have about 3200 miles on it now.

Dwrat, we tow a 26' Toyhauler like yours (but looks alot longer) and get 10-11.5 mpg.

3,000 miles now on my bone stock '04.5 LLY. 14 - 15 mpg city, 18 - 19 mpg highway. Haven't towed anything yet. Mileage continues to get better with miles. Truck definitely runs quieter with fuel additive (I use Power Service).

that is exactly what mine did. first tank was awesome, then it went down for several and now its back up and still climbing..

With the stock 245's, and a fiberglass tonneau, no mods, I'm getting 16 overall, but 21+ when on highway running 60MPH.

I'm the only thing weighing the truck down (150lbs), no towing. Couldn't be happier with the mileage, and the DIC is dead on with manual calculations.

EDIT: '04 2500HD with LLY purchased in July, has around 4k miles on it.Edited by: Keith

My D-Max is getting 18-20 on hiway and 10-11 mpg pulling 14,000+ 5th wheel. Pure stock, no addon's. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley8.gif No complaints here ! I've got 14,000+ miles on it.

3500? I would guess a 4.10 rear and different trans ratio as well, 10 mpg towing might be the best you will see,

Last I checked you can only get a 3.73 with a duramax.

it's a 3500 witha Dmax and auto with a 373 and your right.. 10 mph will be nice if i can get that.. I check it againand again.. It's around 5 to 6 mpg.. All I heard was before i got this truck everbody was getting 20 o 23 hiway.. I get the same towing or not..

If chevy says that is what is considered proper mileage, then why don't they put that on the window sticker?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif

I know the wif haulin' 6-8k with her 5.4 gasser on a 220 mile trip
was lookin' for fuel b-4 home while her stock 04 LLY haulin' 2k more
on same trip still had a 1/4 tank left. Much better. I know right now
w/14k on truck her DC average fuel eco in 18.0 on the life of
vehicle. There is something radically wrong with your vehicle. Is the
emergency brake on? Smoke pouring out of the exhaust? Is your oil
filling up with fuel? The 68 mph max is very suspicious.......

CALL GM

DMAX-anything over a 1500 doesnt need the EPA sticker due to
exclusion of it being a TRUCK. Go figure, this way they can hide/lie
there way to sales....... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

Hi Willivy: If you borrowed the money to purchase your truck, and the dealer can't fix or claims no foul then you better hire an attorney to check into your consumer rights. Sounds like a good case for The Lemon Law.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif
