So a few of you know i've been looking half heartedly for another truck and i'd like an opinion or two. It has 205K on it now, looks in pretty good shape (body, interior) and seems to run pretty good too. If its towed it hasn't done a bunch, no holes in the box from a fifth wheel at least and has a tonue (sp?) cover. Thoughts on pricing would help, here's a link to the VIN check the guys did for me here.

It looks very clean, but I prefer the 3/4 ton versions. But for you it may be just a light hauler as you have other beasts to do the heavier stuff if needed. I have but one 'truck' and am always likely to.
Bottom-Line: get it if the price is right!

I like the 2500's too, but with a little work, it can be an equivelent. Its priced at 8500.

I say get a regular cab or a crew cab if you can find one for a decent price. You already have 2 extended cabs.

Looks nice, CR... you planning on having different trucks for different days of the week?

It needs a little neon green on it somewhere, too :)

I like it. Almost the same as mine, just 2 years older. Does it have the leather interior? Price seems right. What are you planning on doing with it?

no leather but seems to have everything else. maybe pick it up around 7700. Plans...... none really, make it a daily driver maybe, have some mods i want to try for testing since its stock, blah blah, crank up the boost and blow it up maybe, lol.

8500 seems high for a '96 model... I would think you could get a 3/4 ton unit for that much.... Only way i'd putrchase it is if it has a 4L80E tranny in it (I don't know from the option codes)...

Just bought a 95 GMC Sierra 2500 Ext cab shortbox 4x4 myself (should have picture by tomorrow when I pick it up) 209,000 kms. Mint DETAILED service records since early 97. This old guy was a fanatic.

These are them there Canuckian dollars. I bought my '94 with 201,000 km on it two and a bit years ago for $10,500. Also, I think '94 was the last year they put 4L60E's in diesel pickups. I could be wrong though.

But yeah, that sounds like a decent price. If it's in good shape it could be a deal!

EDIT: Does it happen to have the '97 cooling upgrades?

Yep....Canuck bucks (which are actually doing real well right now) but the price of vehicles (even used) are a fair bit higher in Canada. Have a look at www.autotrader.ca and you'll see.

For a everyday daily driver sounds like a good deal, if in good shape and has a 4l80e trans.. If your looking to pull a trailer sometimes and work it a bit, I would pass and get a 2500. There are a couple of very low km 2wd 2500 in Alta autotrader, You might want to look at them if you were wanting a trailer puller or wanting to carry a camper, but I don't think your a 2wd kind of guy lol.

I got my 2500 a year ago for 8500$ (cdn), thought it was a good price when comparing other at the time.

Aren't all Diesel's on a 3/4 frame? My 95 1500 Suburban is all 2500 except it has 2 less leaf springs in the back and it rides nicer. I would through my First ball at $7500. See if he swings at it at all or lets it slide by. My Burban was listed at 5K (witch I thought was low can't get a gas burban for that much) I said 4K and he took it. Hate it when they take your first offer means you could have got it for less.

Yea but how much.

$10,500 comes with both hitches and both tail gates, prodigy brake controller, box liner, roll and lock box cover, immobilizer and more. It is alway garaged when not using and I'm hoping it is as good as it looks.:)

I thnk they just did that with the Burbs, 1500's have a lighter frame.

I'd prefer 4x4 for sure and it doesn't have the cooling upgrades by looking at the thermo housing, IIRC it was the 6 blade steel fan also. Was also a mouse nest on the intake manifold.

I have yet to take it for a spin and hook the scanner to it. Been searching the auto trader to death, hasn't been anything to catch my fancy yet. Pretty sure it has the 4L80E.

You are in Alberta and Trucks Run a premium out there. My Mother and Sister live near Drumheller and I have though about buying trucks in Ontario and taking them to there place and selling them for a good profit. It would cover the cost of me visiting.

Many years back a buddy of mine use to take older cars/trucks back to the east coast to sell them, could double his money easily, no rust!

hey on the bright side now you can make it a 3rd door cab!! Some kid rolled my 97 3 days after he bought it... thats what they did. I kinda wanted it back after that. Anyone know why no 3rd door diesels?

Nice Truck, you have a small ding below the door handle, everything else should buff right out.:)

Scanned it, drove it. No codes to start and none showed. C-times no higher then 1.8 ms, max fuel rate of 60^mm, TDCO -1.67. Didn't monitor boost but there was no black smoke, none, 0, ziltch.....lol.... It was guttless... (normal 6.5 S huh...

Injectors and combustion chambers must be good, dropping cylinders with the scanner and it was very noticable on all of them. Tiny rust spot on one fender, chipped paint & a few scratches, normal really. One vent is falling out, little flip up pad on the consol is broke. Other then that pretty good. A little under $7700.

CR- did you purchase the truck?

I am torn between two trucks for sale, which, is some ways, mirror your truck purchase history (if indeed you bought the 96): 1994 2500 ext cab short box 4x4, and a 1996 with the same specs. The 1994 has 170k miles and the 1996 has 140k miles, and both are in good shape. The asking prices (US$), however, are very different: 1994 = $3500, and 1996 = $7600.

I'm a novice looking to learn more about diesels, and wanted a truck to use as a daily driver in addition to a project car. The projects I would be attempting are to upgrade exhaust, injectors..the list that everyone is kind enough to share (and yes, I'd put appropriate gauges on first).

With the 1994 I would have much more money to use for projects, but with the 1996 I would have a more modern interior, and probably better resale.

Can you suggest other reasons why a 1996 might be a better purchase, based on technical information?

Thanks for any feedback.

Jon

No i didn't buy it yet. Still mulling it over.

As to purchasing a 94 or 96 it would be your preference on interior style, some like the old but i like the new (more toys). Also OBDI seems to be easier to fool with then OBDII. Your also talking miles vs kilometers. This truck i'm looking at is a fair deal, but i'm wondering if the money would be spent better elsewhere even though i want stock for doing some mods. I'd hate to have to put my Blazer back to stock.
