New to diesels, but enjoying getting acquainted with my new truck (7.5 Silverado 2500 HD purchased on 7/12). Swapped an '05 Avalanche for it primarily because the AV just didn't like pulling our camping trailer up some of the passes here in Colorado.

Been lurking a couple of weeks now, already learned a lot!

Couple of notes: We live at 8300' and commute to work at about 5300' daily; 'bout 35 miles each way. So far, the Silverado gets about the same mileage as my old Av did - 16.5 - 17.5.

Towed my ATV trailer w/2 ATVs on board about 100 miles each way this weekend. Surprised to see my mileage for the trip (via the DIC) sitting at about 17.9. That's going over 3 passes, one at about 10000', but also some good downhill stretches. Didn't seem to need the tow mode at all and the truck didn't miss a beat on the grades. Big improvement over the AV.

Looking forward to learning a lot more here on this forum.

Thank you! I intend to enjoy both the truck and this forum. gregw, we were actually looking for a red one, but none on the lot. Settled on the Blue Granite and are quite happy with it. Two days later, stopped back in at the dealer - they had a red one almost identically equipped sitting on the lot! :(

Don't get me wrong, the color really doesn't make that big a difference to us; still love the truck! :D
