I filled my tank at a Shell station (i have used for the seven months i have had this 2004.5 LLY ) on friday morning and 5 miles into a delivery trip, truck started fuel knocking loudly, big puffs of white smoke, and when coming to a stop, truck would lurch forward after shifting to 1st.

I am thnking injectors, pump or who knows what.

after the trip, i checked the bowl of pre-oem fuel filter water separator. Bowl was half full of rusty water and the fuel was so cloudy you could not see thru the glass bowl. I ran the truck emptying sediment bowl at every stop. Refilled at different station and everything is back to its top form.

My point here is really more of a thanks to this forum for informing me on the important things to spend my money on, that is the preventive maintenance items and the power addons. Everything I have purchased for my dmax has been from vendors or members of this forum

Thanks

Sounds like you could have quite a bit of water in the tank.

You are probably right. Wish there was drain petcock on tank but i will have to settle for draining separator bowl daily until comes out clean. Filter is 2 micron and have one on the way, will definitely keep a spare in tool box from now on.

Have been loking for a do it your self valve kit for over a ear, but unable to find one. Hopefully some ingenuis person will develop one soon . When GM came out with the 350 Disel conversion I welded a valve on my Olds 98 tank an d installed a RACOR seperator. Had to because back them there weren't many diesel stations and the few thre were frequently had water in thier tanks ( mostly steel tanks back then) . The station closest to me then sold very little diesel and had so much trouble with water in all his tanks he finally closed rather than put in a new fiberglass tank farm. He later had ( state law ) to remove the tanksand tne station is now a tire shop.

I have never seen a tank that had the pickup right on the bottom. You will probably have to drop it also. Later! Frank

Did you tel that dealer he has water in his tank? He should have iinsurane to pay for cleaning your tank out. Had that expeience with a local ice house station a few years ago and his insurance payed for cleaning my truck and car tanks, both gasser,s and also cleaning of two lawnmowers. He had a crack in the tank vent pipe at ground level. It was a low spot and everytime he washed down or it rained the water ran into the under ground tank. This was a new station to.
