Just pulled into the driveway. Gots lots of work to do. Stobe bar, leds, spreader and controls. Marker sticks need to be way longer, headlights aimed (darn dealer), tranny fluid changed in a few hundred miles to synthetic. Radio sucks, needs cd player. Power locks and remote start were added for free by dealer who owed me a favor. 8'1" tall.

Rides ok without weight. TIGHT turning radius, visibility good. 12mpg on the way home (120 miles) bad reflection in mirror from guages.

Going to go sit down and read the owner's manuals.

I will take some progress pics during the daylight.

Don't forget train horns, stacks, flames painted on the sides, nitrous, propane, etc.

Nice looking truck. Looks like you've already got some snow to play with, too. Congratulations,

"bad reflection in mirror from guages" man you got that right. I have the same problem with mine. You can't even use the mirror at night!

shouldn't that have at least a dana 80 frt? Given the GVW for a 5500 a dana 60 would be way too small, maybe the 80 would be too small also, figured it would have a rockwell in it but I'm no engineer

It is rated for 7k. Same axles as an f550...

looks like a 84" cab to axle with an 11' flatbed....is that correct?

how does turning radius compare to other vehicles, say regular cab pickup, crewcab, etc?

how much did you wind up having to spend on it, not counting plow and body, if you don't mind sharing....

considering a similar 5500 4x4 6.6/at with 10' 2-way dump and 10' plow....

thanks

Same turning radius as a regular cab pickup truck, and same length (give or take an inch or two)

You are right about the lengths, You might have a hard time getting someone to put a 10' dump. The body builders manual requires 5 foot overhang because the fuel tank is behind the axle on the 4wd 84"CA

Pretty well equiped, (maybe add 500-750 in options that would have been "nice" such as 2 person pass seat, tranny temp, dual altnerators, and hystec cab mounts) I got everyting I wanted 6.6/allison snow plow prep. 40.5k without bed or plow

So, you have had the 4x4 a while now. How do you like it? I am ready to place my order for a 5500 4x4 but am having second thoughts. I have a 15k 5'er and currently have an 01 F350 dually with lots of mods. I have some big hills that I typically pull (yuma to flagstaff) 250 ft. to 7300. My F350 pulls down to 45 up the big hills. With the dmax, I'd have a bigger truck with lower gear ratio on the diff and a better tranny, however, not much difference on hp and torque than what I have now.

I have to have the 4x4 as I live in an area with lots of snow. 120" so far this year and it is only Jan.

So, help me out. Any info on power would be helpful. Convince my why I should upgrade to the 5500 4x4.

Thanks

Cause its a gm is pretty close. All of the 05 Fords that are plowing are cracking the tranny case.!

More importantly it is 19.5k GVW, BIGGER EVERYTHING. Frame, steering linkage, tranny cooler, sway bars. Everything is bigger. It is a true medium duty truck.

I think there is more power than you could ever need/want. The 4x4s are governed at 75mph though. Comfortable cruise is 65mph at 2300 rpm or so.

Are you thinking regular cab 152" wheelbase? Then be prepared for a tiny 32 gallon tank. Step up to a longer wheelbase and you can get bigger tanks.

I have 3400 miles on it with only grins on my face.

pm or email me and I can give you my number to answer any more questions
