Hello everyone I am new member and this is my first post! Love my Duramax. I have wanted a diesel for some time now. And finally have one. Not sure where I should post this Question. So I will ask it here.

Why does the diesel engine option cost so much? (7k, more) Just curious because you have your block, pistons, rods, valves ect, ect… the same as a gas engine so the cost to produce it should be the same or very close. The difference being your injectors and glow plugs. And also the turbo but there has been many gas motors with this already on them and not a huge added expense. Maybe a few other things. But I still don’t see the added 7-8k. I know we have more emissions to worry about now that will add to the cost but even in the past the cost has always been greater. Just a thought and like I said I am new to the forum but I know this would be the place to get the answers. Love the site and have always found a lot a great info on here since purchasing my first diesel 3 months ago. Have a Great Day .:D

The diesels are beefier, and yes, the injectors cost a $hitload.

It's like new medicine... the second pill costs .03 cents, the first pill costs 3 million dollars to research and develop.
Also it's a cost versus consumption thing... The more we consume the more they can have us pay.... Not many people get big heavy duty trucks and get the gas motors. (not to be offensive)

Everything is heavy duty for lack of a better word. Everything must be overbuilt to handle the pressures. Fuel systems and injectors must handle the pressure that's required. Normal lines will not cut it. Cylinder compression is ridiculous. A built street/race car may run 12:1 with limited reliability. Diesels are around 17:1 to over 20:1 and run forever. Try pushin' 110psi of oil pressure through a camry. Years ago the drivable power of a diesel was not a very exciting thing. Now over 300HP is the norm. Keeping the emissions down is elevating the price as well. I agree it's a lot of money. But it's fun....

Last I checked, my truck was 1% of Silverados made that year.

It is expensive cause it more expensive to make and your normal Joe Schmoe isn't the buyer.
