If you do the swiss cheese to the original afilter box do you use orignal air filters or the flat K&N type.. Any advantage of one over the other?? Also would the same thing work for a gas vehicle as I looked at a K&N type for my explorer Barrel type $200 or $40 for the flat type and the swiss cheese the original box.. Good Idea?? IMO swisscheese your factory box since its free and use a acdelco filter. Unless you are searching for every gain possible then get a complete intake if you want to drop some $$$, it will definatly give you lotsa turbo noise atleast if nother else. JMO

if you like that turbo whistle go with the afe stage 2 with the pro gaurd 7 filter. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Rock On.gif from what i have read the pro gaurd 7 filter is alot better filter than the k&n and cotton type of filters http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

Do a search on swisscheese, there are some pics here. If you pull out your stock box thoughthe bottom part that faces tward the headlight can get a healthy bit of relieving. It is basicly a triangular chunk you can cut out. I used a dremel with the metal spinny bit thing that looks kinda drill like? Looks like a large scale version of what a doctor would use. A cutting wheel just melts the plastic and does a crappy job. Then in the bottom of the box I drilled a hole in each square mostly to let the ware and nasties drain out. Just dont go poping holes in the back pointing twards the motor. You want cool air remember. Swisscheesing probably dont do much but the price is right. I saw 0 difference BTW at the track when running a stock filter in the a swisscheesed box vrs a afe stage 2 intake. I had my pass headlight removed also. I also yanked the metal tape stuff too.

You might want to go get a used one at a junkyard, this will in-fact be a reason to void warranty if "any" inner engine damage results. $300. Is cheap in that respect if it breaks and you should need to go in for warranty work, one would just reinstall the original. This is an issue that would be hard to defend unlike, dirty fuel, not changing the fuel filter often enough etc. to void injectors...if you hold your ground on those issues they usually give in. Not so on air filtration from what I've seen.

If you swisscheese your stock box you are just cutting holes before the filter, it isnt changing filtering and they shouldnt hassel you in the slightest especially if you are using a delco filter. If you go and pop holes in the box after the filter then yes, they should up and void your warantee. Then again if you drill a bunch of holes in the top of your air box you deserve to have your motor pop.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
I also put a little bit of RTV on the filter minder were it plugs in since I have heard cases of em leaking a bit.
I think kennedy has some good pics on his site.

I doubt it would do much either way gas or diesel perf wise, but you cant beat the pricehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif And I hear a hint more turbo noise.
there are also some good pics on Nick's(diesel power's) site. wackywack.com IIRC
