03 GMC DA - stock

i've done a quick scan of the forum but cant find anything yet. Was 29 degrees this morning but engine cranked over and had winter mix with diesel kleen anti gel in it. No indicators that anything was gonna happen. When I crank sounds like not even firing. Anybody have a checklist of where to start? I'm assuming or hoping that its a blown fuse but any pointers would be helpful. Thanks

I'd get it in somewhere warmer and let it thaw out first to see if it was a water problem.

Jumping ahead to conclusions:

1) Air in system. Bleed the filter and pump the primer up rock hard then try again.

2) Injector problems. It just won't fire till it makes 5,000psi and if an injector allows excessive return fuel, it can cause a no start.

it started.

I had the heater and charger plugged in all morning. The drivers side is taking on quite a bit of juice still. I had the jumper cables hooked up to my 95 6.5 to ensure enough power was available and she turned right over. No smoke..nuthin. My initial guess is that the one battery didnt have enough juice to power the glo plugs properly but it never slowed its turn rate (cranked like normal). Not knowing the electricals on these duramaxes. Any thoughts?

Could be a weak battery that the cold drained.

Leave anything on?

right thats why I asked the question about the electrics on these...she turned over normally just never even seemed to fire this morning. The 6.5 has two brand new Interstates on it so if there's problem tomorrow morning I'll swap them out. Guess I'll try trial and error for a few days until I'm positive I need to take it in.

Starts ok now...although the factory amp guage shows two notches over 14. I drove it around and starts after sitting for awhile.

Put an amp meter on the batteries. I understand a good battery
will show about 13.4 ish volts. A weak one will show about 12
volts or maybe less.

John Kennedy had a couple of good suggestions.

The electronics I know even less about........

Good luck and let us know what you find.

P.S. If you have warranty, make it a dealer problem.

use a hydrometer if you can open it up

One more question from me: Do you have a remote start on it?

John:

On the other page TS said that he had a battery that was taking an unusally high charge. In my opinion he needs to replaced his batterys. He is showing a charge that is higher than normal on the dash indicator all the time.

FWIW
