 Don't want to start a war here but how much better is custom tuning over a tuner from quadzilla, ppe etc.... do i need a degree in computer science to figure it out. thanks

Our software is free, download it, and download some tunes from the library and take a look for yourself.

Is EFILive any better than another product? Well that depends on your goals and the amount of time you want to invest. Lots of people like EFILive because they can customize their truck to suit their needs and environment.

Tried a tuner and had a terrible experience, know a couple other guys with tuners from different companies and they had good luck but not exactly what they want either. It appears you can dial in the EFI to exactly what you want. Would i be correct in thinking like this? Thanks for all the help. I don't want another expierience like the last one.

Correct - you can make as many changes and ultimately different tunes as you want. Depending on your vehicle type (which is not in you sig), you can change somewhere between 100 and 600 paramenters to dial in your tune to match your truck, environment and driving style.

You need to buy the our FlashScan hardware to connect to your vehicle and PC, then download your file, modify it and upload it again to your truck. You can do this an unlimited amount of times - until you get your tune just right.

Most EFILive vendors sell our product with a custom tune. This involves you purchasing FlashScan, downloading the stock tune from your truck, emailing it to the vendor you purchased from. The vendor will modify your tune and email it back to you, you then reflash it into your truck and off you go. You've then got your stock tune and your modified to to compare the changes the vendor made, as well as the tunes in the Tune library to assist in the learning curve of you doing your own tuning.

EFI, HP Tuners, Westers etc have set us up with remarkable software and we need to give credit for that, but the one thing newbies need to remember is that YOU are the tuner and the software is merely the tool that you use.

That said, you'd be surprised how little is changed in an off the shelf tuner...

Like Kennedy more or less said, custom tuning is as good as the person writing the tune. I'm sure there are some "not-so-good" tuners (like me ):h), and others that rock. I personally have ridden in a truck with custom tuning that ROCKED. The off-the-shelf tuners are generally ok, and are made to work on pretty mugh any truck, but you can do so much more refining with custom tuning.

Maybe I am doing something wrong. I seem to have tried everything once, but seem to succeed. LOL ;)

But the difference is night and day IF you have the time, patience, and money to put into it. PPE is good don't get me wrong, but I think EFI live is for the 1% people out there. 1% is growing quickly but the ones running EFI Live break new ground everyday with every tune. EFI Live is a group of beta testers so to speak.....we are the ones push everything to the next level. PPE's stuff has been proven.

It really depends where you want to be. The enthusiast wants to be at the top, neighbor Joe just wants to blow black smoke, get some better mileage and will be happy. EFI Live DOESN'T magically add 100...200...300......or more horsepower unless YOU are willing to put in the time, effort, and maybe some money latter on. It doesn't happen overnight. There is a lot of reading you can do, and you CAN make more hp then any off the shelf programmer can. It is not impossible to understand the tables but it takes time, but once you catch on, it goes like wildfire.

Goodluck, we are here to help.

So when you download your stock tune, does that mean if you need warranty work done then you can return it to stock and they wont read anything when they scan your truck, and after you download the stock setting and make changes on the stock setting, can you save your changes as a different tune and keep building off that first tune you made. Thanks, a little confused.

Before I purchased my EFIlive, I downloaded the demo software to see what I was getting into. Personally I like to tinker and it's amazing to see how much you can actually mess with!

Check out the demo.

i just got my EFI a week ago from McRat and im having a blast learnign about all of the things i can change and tweak to help the truck. there is literally a TON of reading material out to help you along. personally this helps me out but i wont remember it unless i put it in the truck and see what kind of change it makes. then if you like the change, you can tweak it a bit more to refine it or take it compltetly out if you like nothing you changed. with a tuner, you are kinda stuck with what they provide you. overall, im very happy with my purchase and the help i have gotten from here and from the McRat website. there are lots of folks who are able to help you out f you get in a jam and will coach you in what to do.

Good Luck with your decision and have fun with it.

Custome Tunes Is Always A Little Better If Done Right But Id Say If Your Not Seriously Modding Your Truck Then A Handheld Tuner Is A Good Idea As A Stock Truck Is Basically A Stock Truck.. Yea You Could Up The Tune A Little More But Theres A Reason The Tuners Of Handhelds Build In A Margin Of Safety

Long Story Short If Your Modding You Need A Robust Software If You Just Want More Power And Dont Want To Spend Months\years With The Software A Handheld Tuner Is Definately The Way To Go

Personaly I Used Both, I Bought A Ppe Tuner To Get Me Up And Running Then Used Hp Tuners To Tweak The Ppe Tune To My Mods.. Without The Ppe Tune I Dont Tink I Would Have Ever Gotten Such A Good Tune Because There Is Just Way Too Much Data For A Normal Person To Tune Without Devoting Some Serious Time...

There is a reason for handhelds and a reason for custom tuning systems like EFILive.

You want simple? Handheld.

You want powerful? EFILive.

Most of the hardcore Dmax lunatics have played with both.
