: PPE Damage Question
DmaxHawk 07-27-2007, 12:27 PM Howdy fellas! Alright so I was talkin to a friend of mine, he has the same exact truck as me an '07 LBZ. He runs an Edge j/a and we got to talkin about programmers. I told him that i was thinking about getting the PPE, he sort of squinted and said that the PPE wasn't that good of a programmer. He said that its not that safe because it steps up the timing so much that i could get premature ignition. His exact words were "PPE will **** your s**t up!"
With all the reading I've done on this site, I haven't heard one bad thing about the PPE yet. What do you guys have to say? Dan help me out here! What do you have for me?
Thanks for your help!
BudTX 07-27-2007, 12:34 PM It sounds like he does not want to race you after you get your PPE.
You might want to get that build tranny first, though.

I havent heard one bad thing about PPE, either. HOWEVER, I've heard about 1.4 million bad things about Edge on this page!
floriduramax1 07-27-2007, 12:37 PM I'm about to buy one because of all the great things I hear about them. I have EFI Live now, but due to my "future professional plans:D :D :D" I am not finding any spare time to play with and log tunes. I think I want a "canned" tune that is proven to work. If you want to hear "advanced timing" try Crazy Lary from Bully Dog...lol. Every one I know who has PPE loves it.

Ya me too!

Haha well i'll have to challenge him when i get it set up!
DmaxHawk 07-27-2007, 12:50 PM Thanks guys! Keep 'em coming. Anyone else?

IMO if u run any tuner in the highest settings for extended periods of time your STOCK tranny is on borrowed time. However keeping it in a mild tune 40-under 100hp at the fly you'll be ok. I installed my PPE Xcelerator yesterday and put it in the highest level and played for a few minutes and man it ran like a bat out of hell. I just put it back in level 2 and it drives better than stock. Smoother shifting and better throttle response.
3cylinder 07-27-2007, 01:30 PM I run a PPE economy Xcellerator set on 90hp tune and love it. Like said on a previous post here. It shifts as good or better than stock and throttle response is excellent. I don't race it, just a daily driver. I still have a stock trans, a transgo jr. soon to come, but I have no concerns because of the way I drive it. I've never tried the 160hp tune. I have found no need to try that one.
DmaxHawk 07-27-2007, 01:39 PM I plan to upgrade my tranny as soon as Christmas if everything goes according to plan (but it never does).
LWATSON 07-27-2007, 04:45 PM If you're pretty sure your going to get your tranny built go ahead and get PPE. I had a Predator and liked it allot, then I wanted more and got the PPE. I should of got PPE to start off with and just used the lower levels until I got my tranny built.

Thats exactly what i plan to do, lower levels until i get a new tranny.
AGGAR 07-27-2007, 06:51 PM I love my PPE. I've run it on 225 tune and it runs good. I never got over 3/4 throttle but it would just go. I run the 90 most of the time and the 160 sometimes when I know I'm not gonna be towing anything. I went ahead and got the Xecellerator HOt +2. Plan on a tranny with in the next year or so.
When you get your tranny built, tell your buddy to get ready to roll the edge up and smoke it! The PPE will wipe the floor with it.
I have heard nothing but good reviews on the PPE and not very many good things about the edge. Goodluck.
jpoudrier 07-27-2007, 10:27 PM Not to bash your buddy, but what is his experience with the PPE? I have spent the past couple weeks researching the different options and ordered my PPE from Dan last night.
I have no doubt I could F my truck up with PPE, but is that the fault of the programmer. If I put a 350HP tune on a stock truck and go balls to the wall all the time, how can I blame the programmer. PPE is going to allow you to add a lot more HP then your friends Edge. It is up to you to use it wisely.

Thanks, I plan to get him on the line as soon as I get used to the programmer, he also has a stock tranny and drives that thing like he stole it.

I'm not really sure of his experience, he was a dealer but that didn't really take off. Thanks
Dragrcae247 07-28-2007, 12:18 AM I run both trucks hard with the PPE's on levels 4 &5. Haven't had any problems with the tranny's but had to add a lift pump to both to keep the rail pressures up. My buddy that has an edge and gets about 4-5 trucks put on him with the PPE on level 4 with his edge on level 6(HOT). He just bought a PPE from me and we will play tomorrow if the weather is good. He's going to stack them so I may need to turn up the PPE.
03LB-7dmax 07-28-2007, 12:25 AM PPE "Programmers" dont realy step up the timing that much, all programmer/modules, will increase timeing and fuel duration.Bullydog, triple dog, has way to dam much timing, my truck sounded like automatic m-16 fireing under my hood, at 18-25k rpms.
NCexRider 07-28-2007, 08:43 AM You guys seeing any high EGT's out of the Xcellerator while towing?
DmaxHawk 07-28-2007, 10:13 AM Or any high egts period?
jstrese 07-28-2007, 11:46 AM Oh, you will see very high egt's on hot+2 if you hold it to the floor, but if you keep an eye on it you will be fine. Our egt gauge goes to 1,600 and we hit the "er" in pyrometer last week at a pull :D. If not for the 0087 code at 2/3 track we may have got it higher. stupid fuel rail:mad: .
DmaxHawk 07-29-2007, 11:13 AM What are the Egts on levels 1-3?
LBZ_YFZ 07-30-2007, 01:27 AM They are pretty low on the lower levels. Even with the 4000 I have seen 1650 on the hot+2.
As for the timing... come up to Colorado at 5800 ft. with an aftermarket turbo and put your foot to the floor with hot+2 and no boost. Sounds like an old powerstroke. Once the turbo spools there is not much that will touch you but until then it sounds like it will come apart.

How old is your tune???
LBZ_YFZ 07-31-2007, 12:23 PM Not sure but the order date was Feb. 23rd.
ratlover 07-31-2007, 12:45 PM What version does it say it is when you plug it in?
MarkBroviak 07-31-2007, 12:58 PM You use and sell alot of PPE Programers and they do exactly what they are supposted to. If the truck is built for it there is not many things that compare to the power level these boxes produce. I give them an A++++ and so do my customers. Joe and Dan are two of the best guys to work with IMHO.
LBZ_YFZ 08-01-2007, 12:40 AM What version does it say it is when you plug it in?
Not sure, I am outta town for the week. Will check when I get back.
I definitely have no complaints about the power!! Just doesn't sound so good and now it seems it could be a could be a version issue.
adgr71 08-01-2007, 02:34 PM i know of severel guys running ppe boxes and love them, i have a evo myself because of the features it comes with and almost switched myself to ppe but do not need that much power. as far as power goes ppe takes the cake , i want my stock tranny to live and if i had a ppe box i could not behave with it for that to happen, ppe is in a leauge of there own, the way i see it, they are pricey but you get what you pay for with ppe tuners:)
KoolKeith 08-01-2007, 03:23 PM What setting is needed on the PPE for good amounts of smoke?? Thanks
LWATSON 08-01-2007, 09:51 PM What setting is needed on the PPE for good amounts of smoke?? ThanksLevel 4 smokes good, level 5 smokes allot and level 6 will black out the highway.
DmaxHawk 08-05-2007, 10:00 PM Does anyone have a screeching noise when accelerating? I know two guys that both have Edge in their trucks and when they accelerate, I can hear a screeching noise and its not the tires. Sounds like clutches or something. Does anyone have that with the PPE?
Thanks
ColdSteel14 08-05-2007, 11:56 PM Just for shits and giggles, anyone ever make a tune that will make tons of smoke and not limp your tranny? That would be kinda neat in traffic.
Take that you Prius!

Check out the EFI live or hp tunners section.

When the turbo on a LBZ comes on if you have exhaust you get this wierd screetching howl sound that sounds like a mix between a hoover on crack and a midget screaming in your tail pipe. Maybe your hearing that?
DrededSS 08-06-2007, 11:30 PM I'm ordering a complete MBRP exhaust with muffler delete and the PPE Xcelerator. That should put out some smoke, right?
DmaxHawk 08-06-2007, 11:35 PM I noticed a very increase in smoke with the MBRP cat-back before i got my PPE, i set it up to lvl 2 and it smoke pretty good when you're on it.
ratlover 08-06-2007, 11:46 PM Dont think exhaust will make much difference.....but I havent ever had a stock system for more than a few hundered miles ):h
PPE turned up will smoke pretty good :D If your into that type of thing.....but if your not into that type of thing.....then maybe your a girly man that shoulda bought a gasser Colorado ):h :joke:
GROOT 08-07-2007, 06:57 AM It sounds like he does not want to race you after you get your PPE.
