It gets regularly into the 20's at night here and maybe the teens a few times during the winter. Should I only worry about the heater being plugged in on the really cold nights or any time below freezing?? I routed my engine heater cord to the front bumper today with zip ties, but it's still not long enough to get to where it will be really easy to plug in. I was thinking I could hopefully find a 1' long extension to put on the end of it to make it more accessible.

Well, took care of the access problem. I found some info on past threads. I sliced the wire loom back a little to allow more heater cord out. Then, routed the plug to the front tow hook. Zip tied it in a few spots. Very easy plug/unplug now :)

Still wondering on when I need to use it??

b rad, i m in idaho and farm. i have many diesels and plug them in 10 to 12 hours when needes with no adverse affects. some machines have 5000 hrs. very good idea to unplug before starting as cold circulating h20 could fracture the heating element. glow plugs run less and good cabin heat in minutes.
