Mackin 10-31-2004, 05:47 PM We take no credit for wrecking your tranny. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif The Predator can not clear TCM codes or read them.
Mac
rick777 10-31-2004, 06:57 PM so what do i do next? should i take it to auto zone and let them scan it. i thought i read somewhere that the ses light will clear on its own after 40 or so starts. is this true? and the comment about wrecked tanninies is not funny mackin! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif Edited by: rick777

Did you think the Ally would just fall into line and say " I will handle it"? Get the trans done and be done with it.
Why is it so difficult for some people to realize that when you add hp you must address the transmission?
mike
Mackin 10-31-2004, 07:27 PM Whether or not you retrieve the DTC codes is irrelevant. You know why it limped ,you have over powered the holding capacity of the transmission many times and have created a problem.
Remove the Tune and order the parts and or a complete drop in to resolve the problem.
You will thank yourself in the long run.
Have fun!

rick777 10-31-2004, 08:16 PM but i dont know what parts. and or will it reset its self? i live in vegas and i dont know anything about allisons. how hard are they to work on and figure out? i know about suncoast but i do not have the know how to install the upgrades. what do i do? take it to the steeler? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif i need some help! i know i sound like a idiot, but this is something i just know nouthing about. i am getting the feeling i am f$$$ http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif
tbone1227 10-31-2004, 08:25 PM youre best bet is to make a run into LA and see Mike L, get the tranny
work done and youre golden !! you'll pull anything, any hill, and
can add more HP and just hammer the thing without any worries http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
if youre not going to do that, get a code reader, about $150, or just
take it in and tell them what happened - the truck started acting up,
obviously return it to stock and dont mention a word and let them check
it out - but youll have the same problem again if you dont upgrade it
now

tbone1227 10-31-2004, 08:40 PM i headed down on a friday night after work, dropped it off on saturday

WanaDmxsub 11-01-2004, 12:54 AM rick777,
You limped it with the 40 tune??? That doesn't sound right to me or am I missing something??? Know anyone in Vegas with a Quad??? It will read and clear the TCM codes. You limped it in the 40 tune???http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif
MikeL,
How about a SCIII group buyhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif
Mackin 11-01-2004, 06:12 AM The SES light will go out after a few engine on/off cycles but the codes will remain. You will need a Tech II or equivalent to erase.
Take Mike's advice ,most likely your best bet,or you can also call Suncoast to see if they have a installer near by.
Your truck is safe to drive but if you push it ,it will worsen. The Allison is rugged I was still driving mine daily and "neutralizing" on the slightest roll on in OD with the Juice 90 till I did my transmission.

ratlover 11-01-2004, 09:02 AM you did that with a 40 hp predator tune???http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif Were you in it hard or just cruising? Have you limped it before? Were you driving up a 60* incline with 30k behind you? What were the other conditions? Somthing sounds wierdhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gifEdited by: ratlover

Were you towing your 31' toy hauler up the hill when the trans. went into limp mode? Also, what do you estimate for the weight of the loaded trailer, and were you in 5th gear when the trans went into safe mode or was it shifting from 4th to 5th?
I am thinking it was a heavy load up a steep hill that caused the trans. to go into limp mode with only a 40 hp increase. There are many posts on this site saying the stock Allison can handle up to 90 additional hp, but I believe that is with a empty truck.
Quite a few Edge owners have posted notes saying they tow on level one, which I think adds about 40 hp. I now wonder if that is a good idea, after reading about your experience. (The Edge does have some built in safeguards for the trans, so maybe that is how they can run level one.)
Seems your options are to upgrade the trans. if you want to continue to pull with extra power, or go back to stock if you want to avoid the expense of an upgrade. I think Eric posted a note awhile back saying he does a Suncoast Stage III for around $3,500 installed.
If you get the upgrade, let us know how things looked inside the transmission afer they break into it.
Good Luck.
rick777 11-01-2004, 10:59 AM the hill i was going up was a long hill but not that steep. if i remember i was in 3rd or 4th doing about 60 mph. i was really shocked when it limped. and very pi$$ed! and i gues my trailer loaded is abbout 14,000 lbs. no limps before this.
Mike L. 11-01-2004, 11:00 AM I would like to know what the codes are rick. If you have a weak converter clutch, it is easy to limp the Ally without any program at all. I have seen this happen
mike
dmaxfan 11-01-2004, 11:02 AM I keep my predator on 86, and (knock on wood) haven't limped it yet. What were the circumstances? Have you ever put it on 120? Were you towing at the time? I need to know, that way I can take my program out if need be because I can't afford a $3,500 bill.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley24.gif
rick777 11-01-2004, 11:18 AM all the codes that i could find are posted in my first post. a bunch of stuff i coudnt figure out. and yes i put it on 120 once but was not towing anything.
Mackin 11-01-2004, 03:57 PM Besides Transmission Control System (MIL Request) the P0700 DTC the rest are PCM related. Mass air,Map sensor and Fuel Temp.
That is as far as you will get with the Predator. You will need a TCM reader to get Codes related to the P0700.

ratlover 11-01-2004, 04:12 PM What kinda rpm were you spinning? Were you accelerating ect? Did it do it at the shift?
I am in 5th with the converter locked at 60 at a stead cruise, about 18oorpm IIRC(dont run there much)
Whats your fluid look like? Probably looks like bloodhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif
rick777 11-01-2004, 04:23 PM it did not do anything wierd but throw the ses light. and a bit of a wierd shift. but it was not up or down shifting at the time. i didnt even no anything was wrong until i started to pull out from a stop sighn and it was not going into 1st or 2ng gear.i figured out what probly happened today i got into my truck today and gues what i forgot to do http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif i forgot to put my truck back into 2 wheel drive. when i was leaving the dunes. i think that is probly what did it. dam it. i could shoot my self right about now.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gif i drove about 130 miles in 4 wheel drive.
Trouthunt 11-01-2004, 04:32 PM Don't feel bad I limped mine this morning in 80hp mode no load on a flat hwy. go figure? I guess I'll drive it until it blows...
