: New Injectors plus a little story
st_pinetree 10-31-2004, 10:52 AM Went and picked up my rig yesterday. Got 8 new injectors, brought the truck in on Monday, done by Wed. Service at Karl Tyler Chevrolet in Missoula MT was excellent. No hassles, they seemed to go out of their way to get the parts w/o a long wait etc. After my Furd experience a couple years ago, I'm so happy I'm going to write them a letter. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif
One thing to note: I noticed on my work order that they had to replace a couple injector sleeves and therefore changed the oil, because coolant leaked into the crankcase during that procedure. Being the anal retentive sort of guy I am, I checked the oil prior to taking off and heading the two hours to home. Low and behold, oil level is approx 8" up the dipstick. I guess they forgot!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif Dealer has a quick lube on-site, so I brought it to them since the service Dept. was closed on Saturday. They were super nice, and got it right in for an oil change, no charge to me. I shudder at the thought of what would have happened had I drove home on that watered down oil. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif My dad always taught me it was a good habit to check your oil everytime a rig has been sitting for a while. Lesson paid off here I'm sure.

Polarbear 10-31-2004, 09:06 PM Great to hear that your back going in such a short period of time....they mostve had some injectors in stock or something? Do you know what you got for injectors..New set of old design, or new design?-Adam

GLad to see you up and back in action. Did you notice the engine behaving quieter like it was when new?
I do however have the same question as Polarbear, did they install new revised injectors or replace with same revision? I am a bit leary right now as my truck is slated for injectors and are now on order. After searching the site, I have seen a few owners that have been in for 2, even 3 injector repairs. This is not a good thing. I am hoping the new revised units are what to be installed in my 2001 truck. I can see if you have 2003 and they are replacing only the faulty injector(s)
Please let us know.
Thanks
Service at Karl Tyler Chevrolet in Missoula MT was excellent.
I was curious if you had other experience/history with this dealer. I am not completely happy with my local dealer and would like to know another place to go if I have a REAL problem and poor support locally.Edited by: Duff
dmaxalliTech 10-31-2004, 11:17 PM Dealers must use the updated latest injector or GM will not pay them for the job, so there should be no risk of getting a previous design injector.
Seems odd that they forgot after they went out of the way to mention changing the oil.

I like Karl Tyler. I work in the woods and at a previous job I'd get a new 1500 every year and a half. Karl Tyler always took care of it for me and I was always satisfied. I will attribute the overfull on the oil to a brain fart. We all have them sometimes. Karl has dealerships in other places, so they were able to fedex the injectors from one of them. Saving me a long wait from the factory. All that said, I'm hoping my Dmax never has to go back there again. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif Purring along like a kitten again now. No more embarrasing smoke.

Duramax Dually 11-01-2004, 02:10 PM DmaxAllitech,
Thanks for the clarification. Can you elaborate why some people have had numerous failures?
Old Vet 11-01-2004, 04:36 PM My 2001 has had a smoke problem at Idle since I bought it, sometimes worse than others. I took it to a local dealer and he said it was running real strong and could not see any problems. Coming back from the SF Bay Area a couple of days ago it was smoking pretty bad. It has lightened up again but I am wondering if the Dealer just doesn't have a good Technician
162000 miles on odometer, nothing but a K&N filter, some clattering from the engine but not too anoying. What do you guys think? should I get another opinion? Anybody able to recommend a good tech in Northern Ca.?
Thanks
Duramax Dually 11-01-2004, 04:47 PM If I was in your position, I would get it checked. Mine started the smoking but I took it in 2 weeks after the first signs. I am getting the new improved injectors when they come in.
Where abouts in Northern California are you located. Some People call San Jose NorCal so hard to define geographically.

Old Vet 11-01-2004, 08:19 PM Hello Jeff,
I live in Oroville Ca. Kelly Ridge to be exact, right next to Lake Oroville.

ShumDit 11-02-2004, 07:45 PM I really can't say but I understand that Cross-Roads GMC in Auburn has 3 DMax mechs. I spoke w/one who was a factory trained Master Tech and seemed to be knowlegeable about the issues. Long story but generally have them work on my 'rado even tho they are GMC. I know they replaced injectors and a head on my neighbors 01 sometime ago w/o any recurring issues.
Big P 11-02-2004, 10:34 PM Is there anything new or upgraded with the replacement injectors that are going into the lb7's, or are they the same design likely to fail again after a period of time?
Duramax Dually 11-02-2004, 11:00 PM Old Vet,

jesshd 11-03-2004, 09:08 AM I also got a fuel filter change, oil change with filter and coolant change when they did my truck. Cannot complain.

bearnc1 11-03-2004, 12:21 PM I was at the Chevy dealer yesterday and he told me it did not seem to be a diry problem or fuel problem. The injectors fail if the fuel filter was changed or not. He said most of the time it was on number seven cylinder. He also said they only changed them on the side that was affected. He also said that the wait for new injectors was not that long but did not say how long. My is doing fine and I hope it keeps on.
Old Vet 11-04-2004, 05:24 PM Jeff,
Did your "Service Engine" light come on while your truck was smoking or did you smell diesel in the oil? My light has never come on and so far no diesel in the oil. Does GM require that all these symptoms are happening to get a replacement on injectors?
George

Glad to hear your truck is still doing fine, as should be expected.
