: 70 - 150 vs 90 - 150?

Well I've pretty much settled on a VA product but because it doesn't come with 5 different settings a-la Edge, I am looking for some opinions / comments on the levels. I have read that quite a few tune their Juice to Level 2 or less in icy / wet conditions. Because VA only has two levels available, I was wondering if the 90 level would be unusable in the wet conditions or if the 70 would be any better. One final question - It is my understanding that level 0 on a Edge box still alters timing but doesn't add any oomph. Is this also true for the VA boxes or is the 0 setting on the switch remove all input from the box and return the communication to stock values?

Thanks All! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

To my knowledge if the VA is switched off it is not adding anything......

Since you can switch it off I would opt for the 90-150.......

Just my opinion.....

Both are very linear in output so managing the power shouldn't be too difficult either way. For snowy conditions, you just may want to go stock anyhow. The VA runs stock when turned off. Edited by: Kennedy

EMSi,

Stock in ice is the best for most folks and like the guys have said on the van Aaken if you switch it off you're stock. You can get used to 70 or 90 in cie but it takes a light foot and you must remember what you're doing. We sell more of the 70/110 HP levels than anything else. The 90/150 is the second most popular as it's up to the max the tranny is happy with for most trucks.

i am also interested in this box. Witch would be better for towing and having fun? the 70-110 or the 90-150 and now i believe they also have a 70-125 or a 90-125. would a 90 or 70 version be better for towing? and witch would be better to use having no trany upgrades? i don,t have problems with ice living in the south.

I've had excellent results with the 70/125 program. The 110 and 125 are still realtively safe for towing if you keep an eye on things...

So that would imply that to 90hp setting is also safe for towing but the 150 would be a little toasty or does the stock tranny become an issue on the 150 setting?Edited by: EMSi

I concur on the 70/125...especially with a stock transmission.

i was thinking the 70-125 would be good for me. giving me 70 for towing with, and using the 125 to play with when i want to go fast. do you think this would keep me away from any tranny issues? thanks.

The 150 isn't all that bad either, but it can get you into trouble more easily. Upgraded exhaust will help a bunch. Transmission is OK in MOST cases, but you are getting up there, and all Allison's are not created equal. The trans protect has done very well to prevent limps from what I've seen.

Attitude on 0 will give you some hp. Maybe more than you want if your wanting stock for a moment.

I don't worry about snowy conditions. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

I wasn't too worried about the added hp at the "zero" setting. Just wanted to know if it still had a little altered timing as this can help in the fuel consumption department. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley20.gif

I have the VA 90/150. I run it in 150 all of the time. I also have the Predator stacked on the 60 tune for tire size and speed limiter. It works good. I have never limped my tranny, but have felt it cut power, and I know the TC lock up unit is toasted.
