Guys, I just ordered the late model tow mirrors for my 02 Silverado 1
ton dually. I'm going to wire them in, and I hope to use the factory
rocker switches to do it. The turn signals should be pretty easy, but
the extend /retract will be a little more challenging. I figure that
the switches are probably the same, so with a little rewiring I should
be able to extend and retract them using the factory switch panel. I'll
keep you all posted. If any of you have already done this, I'd
appreciate any advice.

Actually the switchs are quite different. The 03 though 05 switchs are manufactured by Motorola. You might have to hook up a seperate switch to do the extend/retract funtction.

Good luck.

Thanks Max Power, if that's the case maybe I can find the right switch
somewhere, or use the switch that comes with my Trippin Attitude mount!

Max....why not just use the newer switch assy in the '02 if the mountings are the same? Is the wiring THAT different that you can't retrofit it?

Just curious......

Completely different. In 03 Gm switched to a new data system that intigrates everything through data signals. Basically the body functions of the truck are completely different between 01-02 and 03-05.

1sic57 you won't be able to retrofit the new switch into your truck. You will have to use a seperate switch.

I can easily wire to a different switch, and I will if necessary.
However, I would like to get a look at the newer switch and
connector. It seems to me that I might be able to rewire the new
connector to the existing harness. At least I'd like to investigate the
possibility. I'll try to get the wiring diagrams and see what they say.

You'd have to do a MAJOR dissecting of the switch. When you see a wiring diagram you will understand.

Has anyone got a wiring diagram of the new switch?

I think I've figured out how to do this using the 02 switches. I'm
going to use 2 relays, controlled by the existing switches. I've got
the wiring figured out, I just need to try it out. I should be getting
the mirrors by Friday, and I'll post details of the install when I'm
done.

I am considering buying an 03 3500 that does not have tow mirrors. It does have electric mirrors on it however. I believe they are adjustable only and not heater but not sure yet. I would like to install factory OEM electric tow mirrors. Are there any available that can be installed without rewiring? Would the switch panel have to be changed also?

Thanks for your help.

All you will have to do is have the dealer reprogram the BCM to control the new mirros. I did it on a buddies 03 truck. No problems except the dealer had a bit of time getting it to work even though I gave them the codes. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif
