: Limped Allison’s
ChrisF 10-30-2004, 11:54 PM how many times have you limped yours??
I am asking because I just limped mine for the first time, TST Box HP Level 9 and Trq Level 8 ... Well into 400 rwh and almost 800trq I don't plan on doing that again untell I upgrade but how much life will a couple of limps take away from the trans?Edited by: ChrisF
WanaDmxsub 10-31-2004, 12:31 AM Once, Predator 120.
Been running the 85 tune since then, with no problems.
Super Diesel 10-31-2004, 01:09 PM Mike L. will tell you this same thing. Each time you limp it, the less it takes to limp it the next time. It will progressively get worse and worse with what it will hold.
Max Power 10-31-2004, 01:42 PM My 03 would hold the hot juice w/attitude in level 5 in 5th gear for quite a while. One day it limped and from there on every time I limped it, the next time was easier to limp. In the end I could limp it in the 125 and sometimes even 90hp setting. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif
NWDmax 10-31-2004, 07:56 PM Not yet and I've put 25k since I put the Hot Juice on.
It just shows the superiority of the 01 trucks!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

Mackin 11-01-2004, 06:16 AM I only officially limped mine once. Now catching it before it limped,I lost count!

Trouthunt 11-01-2004, 01:37 PM limped mine for the first time this morning. Will it just continue to limp before if fails or will the limp keep it from complete distruction? I backed the power down and I've been in contact with suncoast...Man I hate to drop 3,500 on a new tranny!
Blinky 11-01-2004, 01:55 PM Never limped it...... Call me chicken... I can take it.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
I upgraded the tranny before the urge to set the Juice on level 5 became too much to resist.

NewEnglandDmax 11-13-2004, 12:40 PM Can someone help me? I do not have any engine/tranny mods. I was coming into work today, 19 miles, snowy, had it in and out of 4wd. When I got to work and backed into my spot it would not go into reverse and the ses light came on. I put it in drive and it would not go into drive. I then put it in park and the lights light up 1-2-3-d-n-r-p. I then put it in reverse and parked. Came out a few hours later and it drove normal for half an hour until I went to reverse when it did it again. It is going into the dealer Monday. Any ideas whats up? What causes a transmission to go into limp with no power mods? Thanks for your help.
Diesel Dragon 11-13-2004, 05:39 PM Could be the NSBU switch on the tranny got wet internally from the snow and water. They have new improved versions out. Most of the 01 and 02 were affected. Starting in 03 they started putting the better ones in.
Do a search of "NSBU" and you will find a lot of reading material about it.
hdd-max 11-13-2004, 11:44 PM one time predator 120 tune 4 to 5 shift with too much weight in the back ......oops http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif
Elowe65 11-15-2004, 01:43 PM Daily!!!! At least once a day.. 6gun w/speed, LP, Predator!
Always in 5th on freeway. doing 65, rolling into throttle when boost hits 23psi BAM!!!!!!!!!! knocked to 4th, Throw it into netrual, rpms com down, back into gear and it drops back into 5th.
NewEnglandDmax 11-16-2004, 09:41 AM Well I took it into dealer Monday morning and they changed NSBU and tailgate cables. Did not give me a hard time about diff. tire size. Was in and out in 1.5 hours.

8100 Power 11-17-2004, 10:05 AM Hey if i put a edge w/attuitude . will it limp the Allison? If it will what can i do to keep from it
Edited by: 8100 Power
baimpala 11-17-2004, 11:25 AM Yes it can. Some have been lucky and not limped it on level 5. I think the general consensus is that addition of up to 100Hp is safe, I personally limit myself to level 3, or 75Hp, just to be sure. I have to make it until next Summer when I put the SC III. The other thing you can do to prevent limping, is to upgrade the tranny. Pretty big bucks relatively, but once you do it, you are weapons free on power (for the most part).

Diesel_4_me 11-18-2004, 10:31 AM For the noobs..
1) How do you upgrade the tranny? You mean get a new one? or does Allison have an upgrade kit or something??
2) How does the SC III work? I havent been able to find any info on that.
Thanks!

Allison has nothing directly from them on upgrading the trans. There are aftermarket companies that have designed improvements for the trans. The components are avail in kit form and can also be avail as a complete replacment trans. Aftermarket mods to the trans will GREATLY improve its performance
The SC III is a collection of performance enhancements. The heart of the kit is the Trans-go kit which improves holding capacity of the trans. It also uses different clutches which are intended to provide more surface area to grip and to hold better. A cut-back or boost valve is also used to prevent the line pressure from dropping too low during TCC. Lastly, it uses a triple disk converter which is a huge improvement over stock.
ChrisF 11-19-2004, 02:50 AM I am thinking of doing the transgo kit myself. How hard is it to change the boost valve at the same time??? Seems like not a bad Idea being its only about 90 bucks from SC.
