I installed my Transgo jr tonight, and everything went well, except for the last bolt, it broke. I didn't have a torque wrench, so I used a 1/4" ratchet, and gripped the neck of the ratchet with one hand, and tightened all the bolts until I could barely turn the ratchet. I didn't allow for much leverage, so their not that tight. Anyway, I was tightening away, and finally I came to the last bolt. I tightened it, but it wasn't as tight as all the others, so I snugged it a little more, then sap, there it went. Why did it have to be the last bolt, everything was going so well. I used a picture that GMC2500HD (http://dieselplace.com/forum/garage.php?do=hall&u=1569) posted (hope he doesn't mind) I indicated the bolt that broke.
Does anyone think that I'll have problems with that one bolt missing? (I hope not)

Umm the bolts only need to be tightened to 12 ft lbs IIRC it is not alot but it keeps it there, over tightening can have bad concequences I think. Mike or Eric will know more.

It may not seem like a big deal but it really is overtightening bolts could lead to valves sticking in the valve body or possibly a deformed or warped area in the valve body. Get a new bolt from the Allison dealer thats local and borrow a torque wrench if you don't want to buy one. I personaly would loosen all the bolts and start over.

uhhhh yeah. it is crucial to have all the bolts in and torqued properly. if you broke one than you tightened it to much. i hope that you didnot warp the valvebody. i'd pm mike l and try and figure it out.

Well, I went and got myself another bolt from a local tranny shop.
I removed the VB, and then I had to extract the broken bolt from the tranny. Just for the hell of it, I checked to see what I tightened the majority of the bolts to last night. They were all between 17-20 ft lbs. Like I said, I only used a 1/4" ratchet, with one hand at the head of the ratchet. I obviously over tightened them, but not by a lot. I don't understand how I broke that bolt? I had a torque wrench, but I only realized that it did not read below 20 ft lbs until after I removed the VB, that’s why I used a ¼” ratchet. So today I bought another one, what a pain in the a.., I had to go to four different tool stores just to find a torque wrench that would work below 20 ft lbs. ($140.00)
I doubt I did any damage to the VB, but only time will tell. I did the relearn as per the Transgo jr instructions, and so far so good :) The instructions say that I should expect to hear clunks and weird sounds from the tranny as it learns, but I haven't heard anything unusual yet.

They are supposed to be torqued to 9 ft. lbs. or 12 N.m. (or right at 110 in. lbs.) Sears has them (tq wrenches) for about 50 bucks.

Their @ 10 ft lbs now, that's the lowest setting my wrench would go to. Sears was one of the place I went to. They had two types, one that went from 20 ft lbs - 150 ft lbs ($99.99) and one of those needle type ones that bend as you apply pressure ($29.99) no thank you!

Thanks for the info!
I just went to their website, and I noticed that they carry the exact same "click type" wrench that I bought last week, for a fraction of the price.
