I have an03 GMC 2500HD Duramax/Allison with 53,000m which is a rebuilt salvage title. Got rolled and body man ordered a new cab and installed it. I just bought it for $20,000 and have had it in the shop 3X in 2 months with tranny case crack($1,250), U joint($100), and now fusebox short from a mouse which lived in it($?). It drips about a 50 cent piece sized oil spot every night from the oil pan or front seal which is about $1,500 to fix and has a clunking which I think is right under the driver floorboard or from the steering wheel column shake. It is a good runner though and pulls like a mule.
Brother in law sold it to me after driving it for 2 yrs with reportedly no problems. He picked up the 05 Dodge 3500 Cummins I6 Quad cab (Black)and said he will trade me back for what he has into it-- ~$26,000. He got it for $25,000 ( I was there) and put on a Gooseneck and running boards. It has 32,000 Miles on it so I bet I could buy and extended warranty I think. I would be 3rd owner. This Dodge books at about $28,000 in good condition/private party but it is in really good condition, really clean. He wants the ALLY and LT cab back.
Heres the dilemma. I love GMC and my Duramax does what I want and goes fast with the chip/exhaust in it. I only pull a 9,900 LB construction trailer so GVW not an issue really. I am also getting good mileage in the Dmax. Just wanting advice on if I should just jump to the clean title while I have the chance or try to ride out my Duramax? D-max has the LT Ext. cab Leather, memory cab,and Boses stereo and the dodge is a Quad cab with cloth bench and measly radio, not the best cab. My wallet says take the Dodge and sell her if I don't like it, but my pride wants the GMC. I also keep thinking about the cost of maintenaince/injectors, etc. with no warranty on the D max as it has been in the shop more than the driveway.
Can I drive the Dodge a couple years and get my money out of it if I don't like it? Is it possible to sell or trade a salvage tite GMC? Need to make this descision in the next day before he recants offer and decides his sister's not worth it.:p:
