A couple of months ago while on a trip out West, we were at a campground where another camper had a tonneau cover that completely surrounded his 5th wheel hitch. It seemed to be a sectional unit that consisted of a few pieces that were hard (aluminum or fiberglass?) and went into place all the way around the hitch so that, even while towing, the entire bed was covered except the area where the hitch was. Anyone ever seen anything like that?

I've seen a couple where it looked like people modified a vinyl roll up
cover. Did some cutting and added a zipper to close up cut out
for hook up.

What you describe sounds like a home made job.

sounds like that would look cool but what would be the benefit of having such a cover? It doesn't seem like it would keep the elements out.

Max Owner: I know that the soft, roll-up type can be modified with some creative cutting, zippers, re-stitching, Velcro, etc. This one looked really COOL, however and...

WAskier:probably no real benefit except the fact that it looks COOL!

Probably would never want to give up my Retrax anyway. Just wondering if anyone else had ever seen such a thing. Maybe Max Owner is right and it was a custom or home-made fabrication of some kind.

It is factory, I got one. The mfg went out of business a few years ago. It is weather tight hooked up or not hooked up. What you didn't see was another section that lays in the bed when hooked up. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif

The basic unit is fiberglass.Edited by: chipper

Huh?

Went outta business, huh?

If done it MAY help a little bit with fuel milage. If you had firewood in box, it would keep the rain off of it. Floor would get wet.
