: Brakes?
Burner 10-29-2004, 02:13 PM There was a member here, that has a lot of trucks, that mentioned something about better brakes. I think it he was talking about dipping them in some cold stuff or something? I wonder how that's going?
I wonder if anyone has ceramic brakes..yet?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

partsguy662 10-29-2004, 02:21 PM Actually Burner, the OE gm pads should be ceramic...
Hell, since broker has all of those trucks, he MUST know the long life brake secrethttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
Burner 10-29-2004, 04:15 PM You know...... maybe it was Broker? Someone should tell him about this thread. I'd like to know what came of the "warped" rotors?

Got Juice? 10-29-2004, 07:58 PM Ceramic carbon matrix rotors and pads.....mmmmmmm
F1 Technology for the road!
no fade at all..... also no braking power until 300F but oh well
Burner 10-29-2004, 08:12 PM Well, wouldn't the ceramic brakes be good for heavy haulers as well dragsters? Heavy haulers would heat those puppy's up pretty quick with a full load.. wouldn't ya think? I think they would be the ticket for the drag trucks as well. I would think that our current set-up would be prone to semi-skid if they were hit hard after a 1/4 mile race? Looks liek the ceramic set-up would keep the fishtail out unpon initial breaking and then become progressive towards the end...so that you don't slide. Maybe I'm way off.... don't know? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif Heck, anything's worth a try. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif ...... right Juice?

Got Juice? 10-30-2004, 11:01 AM Anything would be worth a shot.
IMHO 3/4 and 1t Trucks should have the best damn brakes money can buy. Although these are pretty good for stockers!
McRat 10-30-2004, 11:14 AM They were probably talking about cryo treating the rotors. Eh, not convinced it's worth the money.
Is anyone REALLY having a problem with rotor warping? I warped a set on our Camaro, and have "burned up" 2 sets on the Vette, 2 sets on the Camaro. They turn blue and get hairline cracks everywhere. I drive/race pretty hard though.
Brakes seem OK to me on my GMC. Not as powerful as the E350 brakes though.
Ceramic pads will last longer and make less dust. You will give up some pedal effort and cold performance though.
Burner 10-31-2004, 12:44 AM Maybe just get some 5.1 fluid in there to fix it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
aketay 10-31-2004, 12:57 AM I wish EBC made pads for our trucks, I have a set of their HH sintered
metalic pads on my bike. Talk about no fade and instant feel, these
pads will slow you down in a hurry. Only bad thing I see about them is
they sound like your sanding sheet metal with 50 grit and they heat the
rotors up pretty fast. I ride the bike pretty hard and had to replace
the stock pads at 3800 miles. I think the rotors will make it to 7000
miles and I'll replace them.
sdaver 10-31-2004, 09:45 AM 168k '99 2500 no pads or rotors yet
98k '01 2500hd big block............no pads or rotors
102k '02 2500hd dmax/all................no pads or rotors
the '99 did get a abs motor @68k
ford 150.........seem to last about 16k........................my wifes surburban '01 has 77k same front pads one set of rears gofigure?
svpdiesel 11-01-2004, 11:03 AM Ceramic brakes are about $8000 option on Porsches.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif
Somehow, I don't think they could sell many to truck guys.... I've had
good luck with cryo- treating cast iron rotors, though. I got the same
cracking and warping on my car's brakes as Mcrat, but cryo solved that,
and made them last a lot longer. Cost about $60 ea. Haven't done the
truck yet.
Burner 11-01-2004, 11:13 AM If you have cryo-treated........ what happens to the rotors? I mean, when they get old or used up...how do you know? Do they begin to warble and crack or just crack? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif
Burner------------------>http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif
svpdiesel 11-01-2004, 07:19 PM Haven't had any warp or crack- they just wear out, but it takes about
twice as long for it to happen. I'm sure you could warp or crack a
treated rotor, but it has a higher threshold for temp probelms, so you
don't see it as often. This is on race cars- not street cars. On a
street car, it generally just extends the life of the rotor. Burner,
your brakes last so long, I don't see that you would need it. Must be
fun to live where you don't need brakes, eh?http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
Burner 11-01-2004, 09:34 PM Yeah, I pull the chair outt'a my arse every now and then. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
dmaxalliTech 11-01-2004, 10:32 PM i can count on one hand the number of trucks I have seen need brakes.. I know of some 300k + trucks on original brakes.
Burner 11-01-2004, 11:12 PM Where is Brokers on this? .......... I thought... augh, heck. I guess we'll never know. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
