Picked up my 2500HD DMax/Allison 4x4 in March & the tailgate seems to
be loose since day 1.
I'm hesitant to have the dealer address it, as they didn't seem to have an
ideas on a solution. The cables seem fine, but when the gate is closed, it
is loose on the pins - you can actually shake it back & forth in the closed
position. I check some other 2500s on the lot & they were all tight.
Are there any adjustments that could fix this?

Are the little rubber snubbers in place on the tailgate by the latch?

If you mean the little triangle-bumpers, yes. They're there on both sides
above the latching mechanism, but don't do
anything - they just touch air. In the closed position, the gate is properly
aligned from what I can tell (seam between gate & truck bed is even) &
the bumpers are not touching anything.
But, in the closed position, I can push the gate another 1/8-1/4" in -
there's quite a bit of back & forth play (bumpers still don't touch the bed
when I do this). I can see where if the rubber bumpers were larger it
would solve the problem.
Are those bumperrs supposed to contact the truck bed when the gate is
in the closed position? If so, do you get wear spots in the paint where
they contact?Edited by: inte

Check to see if one or both hinges are messed up. When I bought my truck, one tailgate cable was tight and the other a little loose. After loading my atv, both cables got tight, but I noticed that the side where the cable use to be loose the hinge is now bent a little and the tailgate is loose on that side.

Is there an adjustment on the striker? If not, you should take it
back to the dealer and make them fix it, because they will probably
have to relocate the striker to make it tight.

I believe those latch pins on each side are adjustable. Call your dealer and tell him you want it fixed while you wait. Edited by: Bill Gisse

I noticed those, but I can't tell if they're adjustable. They accept torx-head so I'm assuming they're screwed into a "slot" as opposed to a hole? Just move them forward to tighten, or back to loosen?
I also have one cable loose & the other tight when the gate is open could that problem be related?

I think everyone has one cable tighter than the other. If you do a
search, it seems to be the concensus among many. Even after I installed
the VR Straps, one is a little droopy. The cables and the straps
are the same length, it just seems to be the tailgate they may be
twisted.
