hi everyone well I've made the decision to give up drag racing and start pulling. so i built my first hitch today and i was wondering what you guys thought of it.

Looks strong enough, similiar to mine except mines adjustable. Yours has the same problem as mine though, if the hitch breaks we get to buy a new hitch and a bumper. But being attached to the bumper can only give it extra strength. Should do you good. What height is it set at? Good luck pulling it's addictive.

the height is at 24 and a half inches. i wanted to give some room for spring clamp lift. i do worry about it being attached to the bumper but i figure i need all the strength i can get, i would rather over build it then have it break.

When you clamp the rear springs, the truck goes down in the back. Looks like it will work just fine other than your hole might be a little bit small. Most rules state a 3" opening to get the hook on the sled in.

When I clamp my springs it lowers the truck about 1.5" in the rear.

wow after reading that i ran out to my truck and measured the hole it's 3 1/4" but i admit it did look a little small when i was done building it. and i didn't know that clamping the springs made the truck go down. but i guess if it doesn't work that good i can always make another one, I've got plenty of steel laying around the farm. maybe I'll even make one that's adjustable:rolleyes:

As long as your welds are full penetration (meaning you beveled the edges and buried a lot of power to it), it should be fine for a while.

The only question I have is that with your gussets, there's quite a tab of material behind the hole. This is where some guys get the hook stuck. You'll know on your first hook, if they have to beat it out of there, they'll be yellin' at ya. If it comes right out, all good.

Is the receiver strong enough to hold it or does everybody bolt it to the bumper.

You're pretty sure???

Usually 4th gets you a check that'll pay for gas. Did you go pick it up?

well the pull was run by a local 4wd shop and they don't know jack about putting on a pull. don't get me wrong they are all great guys and they were open to suggestions, they only gave out prizes to 3rd place and it was only gift certificates. i did the pull to see what all the fuss was about (and everybody's right pulling is way better than drag racing)
