I finally have quantified my lp consumption. I don't have a meter on my bulk tank, so I haven't known up to now what my mileage has really been. This week I had to go to Minneapolis, so I took a 10 lb tank, weighed it empty, filled it, weighed it again, and took it with me. Once on the interstate, I hooked it up, set the trip od, and drove till it went empty, which was 70 miles. So, at a consistent 70 mph, it gets 26 mpg on lp. ( I had exactly 10 lbs, so 10/4.25 lbs/gal = 2.3 gals.) My diesel mileage on the trip was 29 mpg, so it is using a little more lp than diesel. This diesel mileage was with the EGR blockoff plate, which I installed before the trip. I am going to remove the plate for the next trip, because I now have a strange sound before the trans shifts on certain gears. I can't believe the plate caused this, but I never had the noise before I installed it. I'll see if the sound stays or leaves.

What brand of Propane System do you use? I'm interested to know more about your system.


With the price of diesel these days running more Propane sounds like a good idea to me.
