Ive had my D-max for exactly a month now. Love the truck! I was just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the aux cooling fan kicking on all the time. It kicks on even if its 75 degrees and Im not towing. Any inside info would be great! Thanks.

Do you run your AC a lot? perhaps you have auto climate control? mine runs much more with AC on...

I do run my a/c a decent amount and yes i have the auto climate. Is there any way around it coming on all the time. I bought the D-max so i could finally have a quiet diesel but this stupid fan screams all the time.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley6.gif But yes i do run my a/c a lot.

there is a fellow named fred who makes a "tranny scoop" (i have one) and it helps to keep the ally a bit cooler. that might help keep your fan from running so much. i know he sells them on ebay, altough he doesn't have a listing right now. his email address is Zcarrs@aol.com

I was running the stinger stacked with a predator, which is too much power for my poor tranny to handle. so i'm selling the stinger and keeping the predator. now that the predator has some new tunes avail, it is more than enough power to keep my tranny crying until i get a replacement...

are you keeping the gauges or what are you taking off? What about the waste gate? I seriously cant thank you enought for your info!!! I have been wanting to do this stuff to my truck since the day i bought it but I just want to know that Im getting the right stuff.

It should not be coming on at 75 ambient unless stuck in a lot of stop and go at rush hour. High inter cooler temp will bring it on more than engine temp. Mine came on once solo in 90 degree stop and go. Comes on quite regularly when pulling long grades. Later! Frank

Coming down hill on I-15 at 75 it was on for at least 60 miles. Is that abnormal? It kicks on more on the freeway than anything.

I have 2 set of gauges, so one goes with the banks.. and my fan only stays on for long periods of time if i'm pulling a load behind a slow moving trailer for many miles...

Does anybody know exactly what factor causes the cooling fan to turn on? I've looked at my gauges (water temp, trans temp, EGT) and have never been able to detect a reading that would signify the truck has reached the point where a sensor activates the fan. I leave my trucks automatic cab temperature control at the same setting and have found the engine cooling fan is activated fairly often... Jim

The clutch fluid is thick when cool. All viscous clutch fans do it.

The fan also must run at idle so it's designed in to spin under certain rpm regardless. As the clutch heats up the internal liquid thickens causing the clutch to engage to the driven shaft which in our case is NOT the water pump. The water pump is internally gear driven.

Notice the water pump in the pic above is down to the right... no shaft!

The fan gets mounted to the center, belt driven only, pulley.

Wow, that is great to know. Thank Hoot? When is yours running Jim? I cant find any consistancy to mine.
