partsguy662 10-29-2004, 10:07 AM Thanks Mark..What's the price tag going to be?
_nar_ 10-29-2004, 03:14 PM Yeah I'd like to compare the price on one as well. The dude at napa
claimed he'd get me a power pup for 300 which is pretty decent but the
predator has more features...
Mark Craig 11-01-2004, 10:50 AM Morning,
The site rules don't allow us to postprices, but if you go to our site and check the price for the LB7 Predator it will be the same for the LLY Predators. They are supposed to be here this week.
Mark @ DPPI
tromplaw 11-02-2004, 03:27 PM what is better? Edge or predator? Tim
Kennedy 11-03-2004, 08:53 AM Once the Predator is released we'll know. Edge tends to be more aggressive if that is what you favor. Diablo has far and away less hardware problems, and also very few programming issues.

Kennedy 11-03-2004, 12:59 PM Howard says my truck is shipped, so now it's just a matter of time. I've been waiting for over a week now to get mine loaded and tested...
Dmax Tim 11-03-2004, 01:10 PM John, are u getting rid of the 02?
Kennedy 11-03-2004, 01:27 PM No way Jose!
The 2005 is planned to be a "short term" unit, and will likely be traded for a 2006. The only way I'd part with my 2002 is if I found the identical truck with super low miles.
I'm also working out the details on an Invoice plus X$ referral deal with my dealer. We would then set up any accessories desired and have ready for the purchaser at the time of delivery...
McRat 11-03-2004, 05:06 PM Tip #1: If it doesn't come on, check your cigarette lighter fuse. If your cigarette lighter fuse is burned-out, the Predator will not come on.
fitfarms 11-04-2004, 01:05 PM this may be a stupid question but what does it me that it will not lock to the trucks vin number anymore. i am looking for a programmer and i am still unsure what to get. i was looking for one that is easy to install and take out when i go to the stealer. Plus i dont want them to be able to tell i had one in there. i want some extra hp without hurting my truck. i have a 05 d/a and i was not looking to get any trany upgrades $ i just want a few hp for towing. thanks http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
Max Power 11-04-2004, 01:18 PM The old predator used to lock onto the vin of the first truck it programs and not allow you to program another truck. So even if you remove the tune no one else can use it. Makes it hard to sell. In the new ones they have corrected this.
McRat 11-04-2004, 04:18 PM I have played with the Predator now for a few hours. Seat of the pants - Ungowa kimosabe! Not bad. I've only done the 100HP tune, but it certainly feels like 100HP. Good drivability so far, no bark. I will do track testing tomorrow.
Max Power 11-05-2004, 01:31 AM So McRat, you removed your tow tune equiped ecm and put in your originale ECM then installed the predator?
McRat 11-05-2004, 07:46 AM So McRat, you removed your tow tune equiped ecm and put in your originale ECM then installed the predator?
Yes, just doing a little experimenting at the track today.
tbone1227 11-05-2004, 03:21 PM McRat - where did you get the predator, are they out now ??
3500dmax 11-05-2004, 03:35 PM Keep up informed McRat.
BlueCrew 04 D/A SB GMC 11-05-2004, 04:09 PM Oh ya, McRat how does it compare as far as smoothness to the TTS Tow Tune?
Kennedy 11-05-2004, 05:14 PM McRat - where did you get the predator, are they out now ??
Just landed my first shipment of these. The Beta units that I have had out seem to impress the users also.
GMC-2002-Dmax 11-05-2004, 07:10 PM Well then........
Not to Hi-jack this........but,
Can us LB7 Vin Locked users get unlocked, somehow ?????????
I would like to be able to sell mine if I want or at least get all the current updates ????

moss022 11-05-2004, 07:16 PM what if you have the lb7 one can you reprogram it so that it can be used for an lly??
Kennedy 11-05-2004, 07:17 PM I lobbied for this to go back to the LB7, but the word is, a new tool, and different from the old one. Doubtful they will invest the resources...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif

I'll see what I can find out...........
McRat 11-06-2004, 01:42 AM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gifJust got back from the track. Here's the results:
No tune - 16.79 @ 80.4 (246rwhp)
TTS Tow 50HP - 15.36 @ 85.4 (311rwhp)
Predator 100HP - 14.42 @ 91.1 (est. 370rwhp)
My truck went quicker and faster with the Predator than it did stacking the Edge and the TTS Tow.
I love the TTS Tow, and have done a lot driving with it. Very smooth, just like stock, but better.
But...
The Predator ain't bad either. Like the TTS, it is deceptively fast. You don't feel like you're hauling ass because it's smooth. But the power is there. IMO, far smoother than the LLY Edge I was using.
I accidently forgot to put the truck in 4WD, http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gifand did a boosted 2WD launch and positively blew the tires away.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif There is about 2 lbs of rubber plastered over the rear wheelwells. Ran 17.x @ 90mph on a 3.9 60' time.
I like it.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
BE WARNED. Unlike the TTS Tow, the "hot" tunes of the Predator are not suggested for towing.
Dmax Tim 11-06-2004, 05:38 AM Pat, did u get a trans upgrade yet?
John, did any of your beta testers try stacking w/ J/A?
dmaxfan 11-06-2004, 11:34 AM Tony, you can do it but you have to send it back to them and 75$. It won't let me paste the hyperlink. If you PM me your e-mail, i'll send it that way or you can go on diablosport.com and look in the faq.
McRat 11-06-2004, 12:22 PM Pat, did u get a trans upgrade yet?
John, did any of your beta testers try stacking w/ J/A?
I'm running a Suncoast level 3 from Inglewood Transmissions. It is interesting that the truck ran 0.9 seconds quicker with no tune than it did before the trans. Some of the gain was a different track, so there is no way to isolate the true gain. The TTS Tow ran 0.2 quicker at the same track with the trans.
McRat 11-06-2004, 12:34 PM OPPSSS!!! I almost forgot. The Predator threw code P1093 (Fuel pressure?) on the first pass and ran very slow. Time booth lost slip, but trapped about 80mph going by the speedo. After I reset the DTC's it ran fine. The only thing different with the first pass was the engine was cold (~160 water temp).
BlueCrew 04 D/A SB GMC 11-06-2004, 12:45 PM Hey McRat did you hurt your stock tranny before Suncoast III http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif
Also what all does the new predator do, and does it turn off on the fly or have different hp settings, speed limiter, is 100hp maxed?

No, I had the trans done because I wanted to up the HP further.
To change settings takes a few minutes. You cannot do it on-the-fly. You can change the speed limiter and adjust the speedo for tires. To tell you the truth, I just got it working on 100HP, and haven't played with it too much yet.
It also reads and resets DTC's.
mrmagu 11-06-2004, 02:28 PM McRat,
How was track, I blew $100.00 and couldn't make it, let me know when
next time and place will be please. Was counting on getting
some help with J/A & Bully Dog Power pup stack on LLY. Soon I
hope!!!
McRat 11-06-2004, 02:58 PM The next "Run-Till-You-Puke" event will be at Famoso Dec.5. Same price, private rental, tons of passes, better DA.
BlueCrew 04 D/A SB GMC 11-06-2004, 03:09 PM McRat, I just did a little checking before you replied and found info on Predator for lly: 40hp/60hp/85hp/120hp were the settings I saw. Wondering why ya said you just got it working on 100hp, or did you mean 120hp?
McRat 11-06-2004, 05:31 PM The LLY is advertised as 100HP peak, LB7 120HP. It might actually make 120 though.
yamahagrizzly 11-07-2004, 05:49 PM is this chip safe for a stock ally if ran on the lower settings? i dont want to push the ally till i get the $$ for an upgrade(might be a while)
also is it 100% removeable? as will the dealer find it? also how hard is it to operate
turbo lcc 11-07-2004, 10:33 PM McRat, what did your EGTs look like with the predator on the 100hp setting?
fitfarms 11-09-2004, 12:42 PM i have the same questions as yamahagrizzly. so if anyone has any answers i would appreciate. thanks
Kennedy 11-09-2004, 07:04 PM The Predator is a hand held downloader with a twist. It also acts as a "scan tool" in that it reads engine data tables in real time, not to be confused with a code reader etc.
You download the program after the tool saves the stock program. You can easily return to stock. The 1st 3 tunes should be relatively safe, but I haven't verified this personally. My LLY truck just arrived, so I'll be playing a bit as time goes on. The LLY Predator beta units that I have sent out have been getting good reports so far...
Dmax Tim 11-10-2004, 07:22 AM John K, did any of your beta testers stack w/ J/A?
Kennedy 11-10-2004, 09:06 AM No stacking as neither has beefed transmission. Add to that the fact that we are testing the Predator as applied to the Duramax, plus the negligible gains from stacking...
Mark Craig 11-10-2004, 09:25 AM turbo lcc,
Using the lower power levels to tow and hot rod around won't be a problem for the Allison, it's just the high HP levels especially if you are towing that will potentially cause the LIMP mode to take over the tranny.
We have over 80 of the LLY Predators out there now and the overall response is basically what McRat said. VERY strong power, good driveability, and easy install. Could be the next leader in LLY upgrades!

fitfarms 11-10-2004, 12:43 PM Any recomendations about where to buy one. And any idea on the going price. Thanks everyone
DSTRBD 11-10-2004, 01:53 PM We have them ready to ship. Give me a call or shoot me a PM for pricing.
fishingn 11-10-2004, 09:13 PM DSTRBD
Tried to PM you about price on Diablo tuner but your messages are full it said....
Mark Craig 11-11-2004, 09:57 AM fitfarms,
We are always happy to give out pricing but the site rules won't allow it to be posted etc, just call us at the office 866-455-7788.

justintyme73 11-11-2004, 12:02 PM Hi Guys,
New on the forum, been checking it out for a while, bought a 2005 crew cab, about 2 weeks ago, 2700 miles on it and just got my predator from DPPI (Mark Craig) and installed the 40 horse tow tune this morning. This is my first Duramax, been driving company owned powerstrokes in the oilfield the last 10 yrs. I dont have any experience with any other boxes or power adders but here is my initial impression
1: excellent service and price from DPPI!! Probably will be ordering a exhaust soon!
2: I have only put a few miles on the 40 horse tune, but so far runs great, nice boost in power over stock, slight decrease of turbo lag from a dead stop, with much more ummph once it hits, part throttle/ rolling start definitely more responsive, if the truck ran like this stock I probably wouldnt have bought a chip yet! Very smooth, seems to run just like stock with more power. I like the other features of the predator also, being able to read and clear codes, and adjust for tire size, etc.
I will probably run this tune for a couple days and then bump up to each of the next two tunes(65, then the 85) and check them out too. This is the only mod on this truck so far, so I should be able to give a pretty good review on just the predator before I add my exhaust, I probably wont be playing with the 100 horse tune as my tranny is stock and needs to stay that way for a whilehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif Tonight the temp will be in the teens so at cold start up tommorow I will pay attention to see if it has any of the cold start issues I have read on here that some of the other boxes have, hope not!
Thanks for all the info guys, great site!
fitfarms 11-11-2004, 12:50 PM Thanks mark i will be giving you a call soon hopfully. thanks for everyting. i went on your web site and found the price on the lb7 preditor and figure they will be about the same. thanks again.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
Kennedy 11-11-2004, 01:06 PM I'm resisting the temptation to hit the dyno with a truck that only has just over 120 miles on the clock. I'd really like to get a feel for what the LLY does stock which isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'll probably break down and load it today anyhow. I have the LLY Predator on the shelf, and opened up for easy online ordering on my site... Edited by: Kennedy
Max Power 11-11-2004, 01:08 PM Kennedy, just go for it! Break it in like you're gonna drive it!
Didn't you say that you were only going to keep the truck for a year or so anyways?
baimpala 11-11-2004, 01:17 PM I'm sure there are more than a few interested in those results. . . .
Dennis
DMAX/Hemi 11-11-2004, 02:49 PM I just loaded the 65 RWHP Predator tune, and it really wakes the truck up. It seems really smooth, just more power on tap. There does seem to be a slight hiccup when shifting at full throttle though. Will this lessen as the Allison adapts to the tune?
Puchased it from DPPI. Ordered yesterday, installed today! Nice folks, nice price. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif
Mark
dmaxfan 11-11-2004, 03:02 PM Will this lessen as the Allison adapts to the tune?

Mine did on my LB7. I don't see why they would be different.
justintyme73 11-11-2004, 03:17 PM About 100 miles so far today on the 40 horse tune,
MY trany seems to be adapting well, it is shifting much better than at first, as good now as stock or better.
Also this may be a bit soon to judge, but I have gotten the best fuel milage ever with my truck today, mixed driving country and highway with a little around town, I am going to watch this for a bit longer and see if its a fluke, but am getting over 3mpg better today, although it is also colder today than it has been, that seems almost to good to be true!http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif

If you are going by your DIC you can't trust it. It will be thrown off by the predator. The only way you can accurately check your fuel mileage with a tuner is by hand calculating it.
justintyme73 11-11-2004, 06:32 PM Thanks, I wondered about that, I will check it a next fill up to see how far off it is, knew it was too good to be true, but still really like the predator so far, after 125 miles on it today
YUKONDMAX 11-11-2004, 10:33 PM I just got one off EBAY for $301.00. kind of wondering if this is a "to good to be true" thing. I guess I will just have to "wait and see".

When we were at Muncie, I had 200+ miles on my LLY and Eric, Hoot and the rest wanted me to try out the boxes they had there but I was able to resist the urge http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
Mark Craig 11-12-2004, 09:08 AM justintyme73,
Great glad you got it and are enjoying it, keep us posted here at the site with your results and impression of it. It's still a new product so we are always interested how it works with trucks from all over the country.
Mark @ DPPI
Mark Craig 11-12-2004, 09:10 AM 99 31U VERT,
Drive it a little more aggressively than normal, but not WOT for a little while till the Allision goes 'OK I see what they want me to do" and the shift should straighten out for you. Keep us posted too.
Mark @ DPPI
Victory Red 11-13-2004, 09:23 AM John,
Just don't load test it like you did my truck, it causes bad injectors http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif.
DMAX/Hemi 11-13-2004, 10:42 AM Thanks for the info, Mark. Took it for a three hundred mile trip yesterday, and the shifts seemed much better on the return leg. I really like it so far...
Mark
fitfarms 11-13-2004, 11:26 AM Is it ok and safe to run the Predator at 40 and or 65 hp every day for better mpg. or should i return it to stock for every day driving and just us it when i am towing. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif
tbone1227 11-13-2004, 02:01 PM your best bet will be leaving on one setting all the time - the alli
seems to respond and like that much better than changing all the
time. leave it on 40 or 65 and forget it
justintyme73 11-14-2004, 10:47 AM Update, I towed a 11K+ Stock trailer last night about 80 miles, with the 40 horse tune, worked excellent, great power for towing

justintyme73 11-15-2004, 08:57 AM Sorry, not sure cause it throws off the DIC, and I havent kept track and checked it by hand yet
turbo lcc 11-15-2004, 09:56 AM What are you EGTs like with the predator on the various tunes?
Mark Craig 11-16-2004, 09:11 AM turbo lcc,
From what we have seen it's going to be real difficult to take someone else's EGT and do a very accurate job of relating it to your use, truck, mods and driving style. Not trying to be difficult, I have just seen it happen so many times over the years where customer "A" has 800 degrees when cruising at 70MPH and customer "B" has 600 or 900 or whatever. There are so many variables, especially in the winter months with winter fuel in the North etc that getting a real world response is pretty difficult.
Mark @ DPPI
turbo lcc 11-16-2004, 04:43 PM Mark
Thanks for the reply. I am well aware of different trucks having different EGTs. My dodge ran 100-200 hotter than all of my buddys trucks with similar setups. I just want a range I have an idea. .
thanks
Lynn
