Would you use a injector cleaner in your fuel tank and if so how often ?

I am not a faithful user of any cleaner on a regular basis but from what i understand here in Canada the only cleaner that was approved to use under warranty for use in our 6.5's was HOWES, any other and it could void any fuel related warranty's. But thats only what i was told by a dealer IIRC.

Alan,

With 142K on injectors, for $8/ injector here probably similar cost in your neck of the woods you can have them checked and cleaned, only way to know for sure. Once clean add a pre lift pump frame mounted filter will help keep them clean, call your local injection shop for their recommendation. I run FPPF Total Power (covers cetane-cleaner-bio-and water all in one) with every tank fill up 4-6 oz depending how much fuel I add to the tank 6 oz for a full tank is my normal.

Any reputable companies treatment will NOT void warranty. For cleaning injectors, neutrilizing sulfuric acid, and over all adding lubricity to your fuel system anyone that runs diesel fuel is foolish not to put in additive at least once in awhile. Generally a one time treatment and a once a month treat will be just fine. Buy a hihg quality product. you get what you pay for. Lot of promises. Some deliver some don't.

Then why when i bought my 95 did they (the dealer) say Howes was the only one warranty approved, remember that was also 9 years ago and i said IIRC.

Never had a fuel related problem myself due to lack of running treatments, that does not say others won't.

rigger. I hope you never do. But it can only help your system and you will run more efficiently whether you "feel" it or not . today's diesel fuel is low on lubricity among other things.

As far as warranty goes. Their is no such thing. Warranty is for craftmanship not lubricants. If and only if a lubricant is proven to be the cause of a failure then does it void warranty. Reputable co.s do not recommend or manufacture an additive that will do harm, quite the opposite.

Avoidance and misinformation what they don't understand they deny it's easier to do that than understand the issue. Call Stanadyne nothing wrong with PMD design either, using anything other than Stanadyne Blue is no good, a matter of perspective. Quality additive is the key.

Alan, I use HOWES meaner cleaner (I think, label fell off). You need to add very little 1ML per litre of fuel.. About $12.50 litre at Skunky's on Norland ave in Burnaby. Dan

Not mine but that of many Stanadyne folks I've talked to anything but Blue is bad, these are same folks that say PMDs are most reliable equipment under the hood, and some dealers will void on basis of just about anything they can come up with, that is why I was saying a matter of perspective, if you are on the hook for warranty many will look for an easy out.
