Looking for some advice on adding a secondary fuel filter system. Have already had to replace my injectors at 11K miles. I have a 2003 LB7. Have looked at the F.A.S.S. fuel filter system, as I am trying to increase my MPG, but the FASS, at $599 is a bit high. Is the FASS worth the expense and does it provide the increase in MPG that they claim? If the FASS is not the way to go, what kind of filter would be recommended? Also, here in the high Desert of Ca. I noticed that when the ambient temperature drops, my MPG drops by about 2 MPG. Would it be advantageous to get a secondary filter with a heater in it, to get the MPG back to 19.5 where it stays in the summer time?
If you have suggestions on filter systems, can you provide a website and price please? Thanks alot in advance. Take care. Steve

That is a FASS way to empty your pockets for no better filtration then anything else.
LOL
Lots of options on add on stuff. You shoulndt need a heater in Cali so I wouldnt look for that as a requirement.
I wouldnt buy a filter kit and expect any gains in MPG either. It comes down to where you want to mount it and what the avail of replacement elements is in your area. All the kits have readily avail elements on line though
MEGA filter kits avail from www.kennedydiesel.com (http://www.kennedydiesel.com)
Nicktane kits from www.nicktane.com (http://www.nicktane.com) or www.gmdieseltech.com (http://www.gmdieseltech.com)
Racor kits from www.lubespecialists.com (http://www.lubespecialists.com)
Others have put pieces togather and made a kit up themselves, but above mentioned include everything needed to install.

Greg's posted words about his business reads "Lube Specialists offers Professional Lubrication Equipment & Reel Solutions with high quality and excellent customer service."
I speak from experience when i say that there is 100% truth in that statement.I drove to Greg's place of business from Ontario,Canada and was VERY IMPRESSED with his speedy and professional service in the installation of my Racor secondary fuel filter.
Too bad some of the stealers do not have people like him on their service staff.
Thanks Greg and all the best in your future endeavours.

I guess I don't understand the question. . . what does fuel filtering have to do with economy? I agree you should put the cleanest fuel you possible can in your truck. Not flaming here, I really don't understand. I use the Nicktane kit, and it was an easily installed, quality piece of equipment. I feel better about the fuel purity that I'm putting in my truck, but definitely no change in mileage. I think your ambient temp drop is not due to any change in fuel either, but rather some other factor like cetane rating (winter blend?) or running colder (not at peak efficiency temperature).
Thanks,
Dennis
