Well folks...the time has come..Noticed some slight exhaust smoke at a stop light couple weeks back. Then noticed a heavy diesel fuel smell that my daughters then complained about....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif. So I took it in today figuring it would be good to know and BING BANG, they said the injectors are ADIOS.

One thing that kind of made me raise an eyebrow I was told that there might be a $100 deductable to have the work done. Anybody heard of that??? I did not see anything in the TSB about deductable. I guess a 100 bucks is small peanuts. When I sat and thought about this injector issue, there is no real fix for this other than putting the same poor design back in and let it take its course. So this will happen again. The service writer and tech when we talked said there was no "new improved" injector...The same one, just new. Seems kind of silly.. One further note, The Service writer said he is seeing 2-3 trucks a month now for injector replace....OUCH!!!!! That's gonna leave a mark!!!!!

Still love the truck, still plan on keeping it.

If your injectors are being replaced under the conditions that GM sent out in their letter to the 2001-2002 owners (7yr/200K mile warranty extension), then the 100 dollar deductible on the 5yr/100kmile engine warranty is waived. Take the letter that you received to the dealer. Edited by: OC_DMAX

Hi,

I have an '04 lb7 and live in Santa Clara (next door) can you tell me
what street the dealer is on (no names needed)? I might want to
go chat those guys up, since they would have experience with the
6.6. When I go in for parts (at my dealer) it seems like they
can't spell Duramax.

Yes, and how many miles....on the truck?

duductable is waived for injector replacement up to 200k on 01 and 02 models. Letter or now, have them refer to the tsb.

Taken from special policy 04039:

"This special policy covers the condition described above for a period of 7 years or 200,000 miles (320,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer."

Little update for all interested,

They waived the $100. So we are good to go.

I have 96,388 miles on the truck. 75K of them have been what I would consider pretty hard miles towing trailers through brutal heat in the Mojave desert on way to Las Vegas and Arizona and of course back. I towed that 11Klb deal at 75-80mph at times(Ask ChevysRUshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif )

So I can say with 100% confidence that when your injectors are going to go, they will go. We can also put to rest the notion that if you run a bunch of filtering and change filters frequently it will stop or decrease the failure potential. I kept this truck in absolute perfect running shape. Change fuel filters every 10K miles, No junk fuel. Ran FPPF total power additive. Never added any power enhancers. I even added Nicktane pre OEM Cat filter at 60K. I am not saying in anyway that these are not good additions, matter of fact they are and should be just to help. I am just stating it did not change the outcome.

The codes noted(although I had no service light come on) were U1041/U1000. The injectors are on back order and were put on S.P.A.C. Some acronymn so I can get my injectors sooner(You GM tech guys will know). After speaking after hours with tech and warranty rep, they did say that the new injectors are revised to be more robust, however they agreed that there were no life tests done on these new models so we they are really a "build at risk" the way I as an engineer would term it. We will have to wait and see.

Fortunately for me, my truck was not in catastrophic failure mode. So they let me take the truck and drive it sparingly. They will notify me when all the parts are in. The dealer that is servicing my truck is awesome. They fixed my cross threaded injector pump in 1/2 a day some 90K miles back. They upgraded my steering so the rattle is gone. They saw my pillar gauges but never asked why I had them or looked at me funny. Just service and move on..No debates, no nothing.

So I will keep you all posted on the repair and how long until I get the parts. I am kind of excited to get it back and have it be very quiet again......

Again, Love the truck and will not sell it due to this failure. Besides I still have 3 years and 103,000 miles left on the warranty........http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

Well just got an update from the Dealer. The back order for injectors is to the tune of appx 3600 injectors. The time frame for getting them is anywhere between 6-8 weeks now. If your dealer has injectors in stock I would question if they are the same as you have now or the new revised. I would demand the new revised....

I will keep you posted.

At least 450 trucks in the pipeline for injector replacement if each needed all eight.

OUCH...Hoot. I missed a Zero...That is 36K on back order. for this is new builds and replacements. Sorry for any confusion...That is a SIGNIFICANT ZERO...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

They said they have 2 trucks at the shop down, out of comission waiting....I sure hope mine hangs in for the 6 to 8 weeks. I am checking oil level every couple days..Hate to think of the price of a rental car...Cheaper to buy a $500 junker and then scrap it when you get truck back.

Can GM be billed for long term rental car if it is deemed a warranty repair?

I had my injectors replaced at 100450 miles. GM stated to me that because of the high miles, they would not pay for temporary transporatation. My truck was out 5 weeks total. They offered me a $500 voucher toward a new truck as compensation, but I do not buy my vehicles new any more. Lost my tail on depreciation too many times. I still love my truck, however, and has operated far better since the injector change.

Hoot,

Well.....here is the debate. Those could be down revision injectors which means they will fail again which might explain some people that have had repeat failures. I have heard at some point that "Those" injectors will be purged but for now are only being installed and used for LB7's made in '03 and '04 where they are replaing specific injectors not the entire system. My Dealer has some injectors also but the campaign for the '01's mandates the entire swap out. Those are the ones I am forced to wait for.

It is so hard to get a clear straight answer from anybody. All of this information is fragmented and you have to piece it together. The sad part is a lot of us are left to figure this out on our own and some have awesome customer service and others are stuck with sub par dealers.

I am still a satisfied customer with my truck and look forward to the fix. I do not let these things bother me, It is just a vehicle ya know......http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
