Hey guys When My truck is warming up in the
morning I've noticed that the cab lights will go real bright and
then dim down back and forth RPM does not change. Does anyone
else's Dodge do this?

I think it is the glow plugs, it will not drag down the engine rpm, but it takes quite a bit of voltage, so the lights dim. I notice in the morning with mine, the headlights dim, and the fuel pressure goes from 15 to 13, which is the glow plugs kicking in, and taking voltage. Once the engine warms up, it no longer needs the glow plugs.

Mine does it too. It is definitely a voltage thing. Only on those chilly mornings though.

It's the intake grid heater. Cummins has no glow plugs http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

Ia am 99% positive the older 2nd generation trucks have glow plugs, you have the 600, dont know about those, but that is what the wait to start light indicated is the glow plugs, I am sure.

Nope, Cummins uses a grid type intake heater. Mounts between the air horn and the intake manifold. Glow plugs mounts like the injectors, right into the combustion chamber (or pre-chamber).

Yes the grid heater uses a good bit of juice. If you look under the
hood you'll see two big relays mounted to the passenger side battery
tray. They have some hefty wires on them that go to the grid heater.
NO glow plugs on a Cummins

I always thought Cummins had glow plugs, I have heard the term glow
plugs associated with the wait to start light, but now I know they
dont. No wonder cummins has the least problems of any diesel http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
It's the grid intake heater. The 600 doesn't have glow plugs. Nither did my '99 CTD.........Larv
Nither??? Maybe neither.......lol Larv

No glow plugs. My 99 also drops rpms when grid heater kicks in. Always did even when new. Should explain in the little manual that comes with the truck. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif
