: chip b4 gauges???
chevy_9465 10-27-2004, 11:56 PM would i really have to have the gauges b4 i got the chip, as long as i wasnt bein to hard on it, just normal drivin till i got the gauges.
i know someone with a 99 powerstroke thats got a 125 horse chip and he doesnt run gauges
shakmobil 10-28-2004, 12:14 AM PowerJoke has huge intercooler up front, you could probably double the
factory boost and still be ok, as long as fuel is there. We got
somewhat screwed with an elegant intake elbow.
Turbine Doc 10-28-2004, 12:28 AM Ditto,
Apples & oranges comparison between the 2, main reason I say gages before going too far with mods, is the cheap insurance factor, if you have the extra power you WILL use it, without gages you won't know when to back off, also your gauges will also tell you if that hi $$$ chip is doing what it is supposed to doEdited by: Turbine Doc
steiner43511 10-28-2004, 08:51 AM im just curious, but what kind of egt's are everybody seein when your not pullin anything? gauges are next on my list too, but never seem to be able to save up 200 bucks. college seems to have that affect on the my wallet.
quantum mechanic 10-28-2004, 12:57 PM I paid $27 with s&h on my boost guage from jcwhitney.
The cheapest pyro setup I can link is $100 for guage and K type probe.
Empty, 2300 rpm, 10-12 psi on a steep grade, with sustained throttle will usually result in 950-1000*f by the top of the hill. Most of the time it runs about 650-700 going down the highway.Edited by: quantum mechanic
steiner43511 10-28-2004, 08:16 PM is that pre or post?

16gaSxS 10-29-2004, 05:50 PM BURNING DOWN THE HOUSE!!!!!! or should I say the 6.5. If you chip it you take off the factory built in safe guards for or engines. When my wife over heated my truck and didn't pay attention to the gauges and lights, I told her if you burned up my engine where are you going to come up with $5,000 to replace the engine. So, because you want the extra power with out the gauges and if you burn it up where are you going to come up with $5,000????http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif
Also if your just going to drive it "normal" (yeah right) then you don't NEED the chip. The stock program provides plenty power for "noirmal" driving and modest towing I know I did it for 7 years with a stock chip.Edited by: 16gaSxS
steiner43511 10-29-2004, 09:04 PM thats why im probably not gonna ever buy a reflash. i dont need it nor do i have the money to blow on one. i would rather have the intercooler. so far i have only increased boost on my truck and not fuel, so im hopin its not gettin too hot. i like the isspro prices on www.dps-performance.com (http://www.dps-performance.com). i think im just gonna buy a pyro and be done. it is my birthday wednesday. figure out a way to mount is later.

I went with DPS performance, and they are great to deal with...I will definately go back to them again. One day I called with a couple of basic install questions, and the owner answered their cust. serv. line. We ended up talking for over an hour about the 6.5 and related topics
steiner43511 10-29-2004, 09:17 PM thats cool, i think ill call them in the morning. im curious about what pyro you got? im lookin at the isspro ev with color coding post turbo. anybody know if these have backlighting or not?

Famous last words, power IS addictive, cooler then reflash is a good plan though, as adding boost will increase IAT which also increases all other temps, too high IAT PCM will clip you back which is where the reflash/chip comes in, to get more boost you got to hold the WG closed which also adds heat, it's all a balance go too far with any of them and it is detrimental, A good reflash puts balance back into it, you only get hot with one if you ignore your gages. Start saving your $$$ you will eventually get the flash, then 18:1 and a bigger turbo, I know been there done that I'll stop after the next mod before.
