'99 Quad cab has a fuel leak. I have an in bed fuel tank that gravity feeds the factory fuel tank. I just installed it the other day, and filled both tanks, today. Welllll, After I got home, I noticed fuel puddled in the driveway. I got a mirror and looked arounf on top of the factory tank, and found the apparent source. It seems to be coming from a black plastic tubing fitting (the push on type) on top of the tank. It is located in the area with the sending unit and other stuff. I could not find a plastic or rubber tube that may have fallen off the fitting, anywhere. My question is: what is the function of the tubing fitting? The head pressure of the in bed tank may be the cause of the ovrflow, or whatever. Can I just put a short piece of tubing on the fitting, and plug it, thereby stopping the overflow? Or will I create another problem?

Thanks, fellas

First thoughts are it's the vent tube. Clamp or seal it. I had to raise the top of mine higher than the fuel level of the in-bed tank so things would work properly.

It's your gravity feed system that's causing the leak. Extending your vent should fix the problem. But one word of advice, gravity feed systems are illegal in most (if not all) states. Reason being that in a crash or rollover, there is no way to shut off the supply of fuel. It doesn't take a genious to see that this can cause serious problems in a wreck. Try to come up with a way that you can isolate the tank from the main tank to prevent this from happening.

Thanks for your input.

The word I get in my state, is tank capacity is a determining factor, and my tank is under the limit, so I am O.K. in that regard. I have a manual valve at the in bed tank, so I guess that would take care of the crash concern, provided that I am capable of activating it, or even if the tank has fuel in it. To my knowlege, this truck has no emergency shutoff on the factory tank, like gasoline powered autos have.

Thanks, again for your concerned response.
