I have a buddy the haves a 01 Monte Carlo and he has went through 3 CATs in 2 years. The problem is his car will shut off at random when he is driving. He says that it usually happens once the car gets hot. Everything he takes it to the stealer they say it is the Cat. Does anyone have this problem?

Sounds to me like the crank sensor is going bad. Pull it out and you will find it is cracked, that is if it doesnt break in half coming out.

first off not all dealers are stealers as you call them.you want to make sure the car is not running lean.misfires and lean running are the most common for killing cats.hows the fuel pressure? a failing fuel pump can cause a stall and also cause a lean condition

Take it back to the last dealer it should still be under warranty and ask them why it failed in the first place they need to have a tech check it out and not give it to the high school grad hourly oil change guy/girl it was said in another post to check for lean condition also a rich one can burn the cores there a lot harder to destroy since 2000 then in previous years. Also in another post the crank or cam sensor also the ECM can cause it to shut down when hot. A easy why to see if it is the CAT getting hot and closing up is to remove the muffler and replace it with a straight pipe or flow master muffler then you would notice a reduction in exhaust tone just before it shut down. I would look into the sensor's more since the dealer didn't fix it right the first time they might replace a bad sensor if it turns out to be that free.
