There's a 96 2500 with a 6.5 and a 5 speed manual. What kind of clutch does chevrolet run. Do they run a dual mass like the tord's or single. My ford has the dual mass and i hate it. It's noisy and mine needs to be replaced soon. Just wondering. truck has 145000 miles on it, excab, longbox silverado. Body very good condition asking 6995. Been on the market since last winter it was 8995. Got's me thinking if there isn't something wrong with it.

Price is what is wrong. Eight foot beds are turds as far as resale value. The ext cab is a + but then your'e dealing with a long wheelbase. Std trans narrows the market also. Of course that may be what you want. Truck in sig is an example. Worth more in parts than the $2175.00 I paid for it last year & it has at cost over $1000.00 in essential upgrades. Has the solid flywheeel & is "jerky" at shift points, and I do know how to shift. I prefer the dual mass. You just have to amortize the extra cost over the miles you use it. There is reason the truck were engineered with it. It is called "DRIVABILITY".The superior MPG with the stick over the AT will easily amortize the cost in savings IMO.

What kind of MPG do run with a manual compared to an automatic? The 94 i used to have in my sig would run about 16 average with short trips and highway

We calculated about 17 with a truck almost identical to the one in your sig. So now I know that there's nothing wrong with it. We figured it had a leak or something.

GM OEM from factory is a LUK clutch at least for the SMF. Original 6.2 were solid flywheel then they tried DM flywheel. Early 96 Production they switched back to solid. Some clutches have lasted a long time and wear out - others fatigue and break early. Thats for either config. The SMF are cheaper to replace. My SMF shifts pretty good I think.

IMHO GM clutch and system are marginal. I don't know what it is but they don't seem to get that system right. The master and slave are dinky. ..... The duramax/ZF also had problems and they have quit offering manauls (I have heard multiple reasons though). I do however like the NV4500 and my truck a lot and don't want an automatic. Am I biased .... YEP I just like a manual.

I like a manual too. but seems the newer the trucks the harder it is to get a manual.

good luck trying to figure out if you have a dual mass flywheel or not. My truck was a 96 and i was assured by numerous people as well as those at LUK, that i had a dual mass. Well we dropped the tranny and there was a solid flywheel in there. But there are solid flywheel conversions on the market, so it could have been changed.

Don't know about the 1996. I do know autozone said I had a SMF and sold me a clutch kit. When I removed the NV4500 in my 1994, is was a DMF. The conversion kit cost more than buying a new DMF and clutch kit for that, so I put the DMF back in. I don't have any complaints about it, other than it makes a jerky, noisy shutdown if you remove the key with the cluutch depressed. I believe there is aTSB that says to remove stop the engine only with the clutch released and the tran. in Nuetral. I can tell you that that is much more pleasant.

I'm not sure what clutch is in my 93, but I'm not real impressed with it. I got is stuck in the mud when cutting firewood last spring and smoked the clutch, It's hanging in there for now, but when I pull a trailer with it, I can smell the clutch, so it's about had.
