I am sure this has been asked before, and yes i did do a search but all the tunes where for more power. So that leads me to say has anyone made a tune mainly for fuel mileage? Could you say gut the dmax down on horsepower and torque but still have a good running truck that will average good mpg on the highway. And if you have made a low power tune what kind of mpg did you get?

I would like one that gets incredable economy. I dont think you need a whole lot of power just for running on the hwy empt.

Im just now learing how to turn it up. Give me 6 months and ill turn one down for you LOL.

The tune I recently posted in the repository got 21mpg until I hit stopped traffic driving to LA today. I was holding about 70mph on the freeway with my foot and not the cruise control.

Anbody else create any tunes that give good mpg, and if so due they increase hp and tq. Has anybody tried creating a tune that lowers hp and tq some that may give higher mpg constantly. Thanks for all the replies may consider efi live.

bobo has a good tune in the library. it's got great power and i broke 20 mpg with 2 tanks, 80% freeway with a 6" lift and 35's. It's got a whole lot of turbo in it though so be careful. it is said it will limp a stock tranny. EGT's are well controlled with it unloaded.

Keeping your foot out of it is the same thing.

If you want some help setting one up, send me your stocker and I'll get you started (be patient). For the do it yourselfers, look to lower part throttle desired boost tables as much as you can stand, meanwhile advancing timing to account for lower charge air volume. Keep an eye on the pilot tables, don't let them get too far advanced. If you don't think you'll be able to keep your foot out of it, pull some mm3 out of the higher TPS tables. It's possible to make a High HP, High MPG tune, but you need to do your part driving the truck though ;) .

Want to go further? Tune your shift points to put you in the higher gear sooner. Lock that converter up whenever possible (unlock on decel)!

FWIW...I run a ~500 HP tune all the time every day. If I keep it below 2000 rpms and on the highway, I can get mid 18's.

I bought this truck used and i know it had some mods done to it but were removed when traded in. I have drove this truck every way possible and before i had done anything to it it never got above 17 mpg. After the mods i usually get 17-18 daily driving which is 95% highway speed using cruz. One time i got 20mpg and that was because i ran 60 mph constantly for a tank full and that is the best to date.

I think these trucks should be able to cruise empty and get in the 20 to 22 mpg range. Dont get me wrong i like the dmax but the dodge with the cummins will consistanly get 19-22 crusing 95% highway all day long. I just want my dmax to get close the same, driving empty crusing at 70mph and accelerating like any truck not hard accel but not grandpa either. Which leads me back to the question is it worth buying efi live and trying to tune my dmax for better mpg running 70mph with normal accel or is it not possible.

I dont think you will get more than 20 no matter what you buy. Some may disagree but Id have to see it with my own eyes to believe it.

jmg,

You could probably get to 20 MPG by adjusting for your 185/35/14 tires ;) :)

Im the same way. I have NEVER seen better than 18. I even drove an entire tank under 2k rpms.

Careful where you lock the TCC. It isn't good to do it a low RPM's. The TCC pump needs rpms to operate correctly.

So i guess that means efi live would not do any great miracle on mpg. It is mainly for hp and tq which i don't really need. Thanks for all the replies but i am not sure if efi live would help me.

Sorry but you couldn't be more wrong! EFILive is NOT just about hp and tq, it's about drivability, adjustability and making your truck run and perform the way YOU want it to. Not only is it possible, it's common to see a race tune that gets excellent fuel mileage as long as you keep throttle position below 50-60%. I’ve managed 20mpg with Kennedy’s race tune, it doesn’t happen often because I have little, if any self control when it comes to taking it easy on the throttle.

Have you tried any of Cit1991’s mileage tunes located in the tune repository? He put a lot of effort into building a mileage tune by manipulating timing and boost and has reported well over 20mpg.

:exactly: . The Cit1991 methods are what I use and I get pretty good mileage and have some pep up top when needed. Like I said before cruising from Chula Juana to LA this week I saw 21mpg until I hit stop and go traffic. That was at 70mpg and keeping it there going up and down hills with no cruise control. Also with EFILive you can correct the DIC to get the actual mileage reading back. Mine over the last few weeks with the economy tune has been within .2mpg.

If you take your stock tune and put Cit1991's tweaks to it then it will feel a little doggier but you will see better economy.

I just wanted to know if there were others that had made or used a good solid tune that consistantly improved fuel mileage. I will have to download the tune and check it out, i only have the demo version of efi live and may consider getting the real thing and try to tune my truck. Thanks for all the replies.
