does anybody run the dual electric fan conversion? i was just kicking around the idea of doing it to replace that big o' mechanical fan and was wondering if it was worth the 500+ bucks to do

As long as you are not pulling more than 7000#, it's the best thing since sliced bread. Over 7000# it will be questionable if the temps will stay in check. It all depends on your particular towing conditions: outside temps, terrain, wind resistance, etc.

So I was thinking of putting on the dual electric fans on my truck. My clutch fan engages alot down here in florida especially when towing and I thought that would save me some HP and milage, But you're saying that if I haul more then 7000 lbs. I shouldn't any recomadations on what to do then.
Sorry not trying to steal thread just interested.

big,
It will increase you milage and regain power that is lost from your engine trying to spin that clutch fan, but electrics have their limitations. So far there is not electrics strong enough (that fit in the limited space) to pull the CFMs the clutch fan pulls, so that's where/why you have to be more conservitive when pulling with electrics. This is why TXC has rated his Fan Damn at 7000# towing or 13,000# combined.

It will all depend on your particular setup and conditons weather the Fan Damn or any electric fan conversion is right for you.

I put them on Larry's LLY lifted on 35's and pulled Tazman's truck on our flat trailer(10,000# total weight) to Wisconsin and back with no issues and temps where in the high 70's to 80's if I remember correctly and we tow fast!:D 75+mph usually more like 85mph and sometimes faster! Works great and truck is smoother and faster and quieter with less downshifting and better fuel economy. I think it is a must for the duramax. Kit is complete and looks great and fits great! I need to put one on the LBZ of Tazman's!

did anybody use the flex-a-lite kits or just the cool my duramax kits? the flex-a-lites are like $100 cheaper...

i have the flex-a-lite fans. they have worked flawlessly for me. i pulled my cousin's pullin tractor 5500lbs on a 25' dual tandem gooseneck at 85 with no problems (other than the Ky DOT man). i have the ppe hot+2 set on level 10, egt's will get a little high, but the coolant has not got over 200* since the install (and it didnt before either). i have the fans set to come on at the coolest setting (180 i think). the install is not bad either. the factory fan can be a SOB to get off. theres a pretty good write-up on this site that i would sugest anyone to read before purchasing. briano was the author best i can remember. use the search button to find it, if you havent already. its a good thread. the newer kits come with a circuit breaker, the old used to have a fuse. best i can tell, the fuse was what all the problems were with.

may be different with a lly or lbz IDK. lly are prone to overheating anyway, from what i have read on here.
