I have an LB7 stock allison and I think I limped it a few months back. Put it to the floor and it downshifted, ses light on bla bla bla....terrified I ruined the transmission and later realized it just went into limp mode. The Diablo sport tuner was only on 65 hp and I was amazed that it did that not towing anything just rolled into 5th gear (most susceptible to slip). Although I pulled the tcm code p0700 I cannot actually read what is goin on internally. Am I for sure that I actually "limped" it and weakened the c3 clutches or was it on a prevention basis? If it is truely limped according to the diagnostics what should I do since I am only a moderate enthusiast? PPE stage one just replaces the clutches with no torque converter. Can I just replace the stock converter and be O.K.? What is the cheapest method out between ATS, PPE, Suncoast because I just dropped a grand into new mud tires yesterday?

btw- If I decide to upgrade it, am I able to have more than a 65 hp tune possibly a aftermarket turbo with stage one?

If you limped it then you've done clutch damage. Since it was the 4-5 shift then it's the C3's. You can upgrade the TC or go with the stocker and get new stock clutches for to replace the scorched ones and add a transgo shift kit and you should be good. Of course it will cost to have the trans R&R'd. If you stay with the stock TC then stay with the 65hp tune. Next to the C3's the stock TC is the weak link.

When you are talking $4K-$5K then who cares about a couple hundred $. Get what you think you need long term. I always try to overbuild.

Even consider at 96,000 miles? That is my only concern. The longevity of the lb7 because I have to have enough money for college.

Yes, even at 96,000 miles. Unless the truck is turning to rust. That engine is barely broke in.;)

If I decide to just upgrade the tc and keep the stock tranny, will I be able to have any more mods beyond predator 65 hp? My friend just got his 02' duramax with predator on 125 hp. Didn't believe me it could limp and he continuously floored it everywhere spinning tires past 5th gear. Still no limp mode. Why? It has 126,000 miles stock injectors.

If you want to play you will have to pay. There is no cheap way to hold a big programmer or big turbo. Maybe do a transgo and tc. Then if you have not done too much damage you can turn your predator up a little.

If you hook up a diagnostics scanner, will it be able to tell if I limped it two months ago?

Providing the codes have never been cleared there should be a historic code in the computer. (inactive code)

Probably not. I believe the memory will clear after 40 ignition cycles if no further limps.

I do not even know if I actually limped the tranny. It did go into "limp mode" does that automaticly mean I did clutch damage?

you can do clutch damage and not even limp the trans
