Glow plug relay fault, however where is this relay, and is it indeed a faulty relay or possibly a loose connection going to the relay?

The glow plug relay on mine is on the firewall behind the engine, in the middle, about where the fuel filter is. You can get at it when standing in front of the truck on a chair, leaning all over the engine and peering down along the firewall.

The harness that goes along the firewall to the PCM in the glove box is in the way and may cover the relay; the relay is underneath the harness.

The relay has a black plastic housing, afair with two large contacts and a plug with smaller wires at the bottom.

Disconnect the batteries before working on the relay, as it continues to be powered! It can help to loosen the fuel filter before working on the relay.


When the glow plug relay was failing on mine, it set the SES light.
