In the last few days my right rear brake caliper has been sort of seizing up.
It seems to only happen on the first trip of the day. After that, I havent had a problem the rest of the day. It gets to a point where you can hear the rotor assembly pinging and faint white smoke appearing when I stop. You can also smell it.

This happened once last week so I took the wheel off thinking it was the e-brake pads adjusted too much. Turned them down and didnt have a problem until yesterday.
I didnt do any rear brake work only front pads 2 weeks ago.

Also, there is no ABS light or brake service message on. The only time I see ABS light is when I turn the key over to start the truck.

Any suggestions? Would bleeding the caliper help or is it new caliper time?

It might be just a matter of the caliper or pads sticking on their mounting slides instead of the piston sticking in the caliper. I'd disassemble it and lightly lubricate the slides for both the pads and the caliper before replacing the caliper. Probably want to do the same to all the brakes while you are at it, especially if the truck sees any road salt in the winter. Stuck disk brake pads are very common around here due to the harsh winters. I've taken a few apart where you had to knock the pads out of the mounting brackets with a 2 pound hammer due to the rust.

My left rear caliper siezed up on my truck. The joys of living in the Midwest. You should replace the caliper. Once they are seized, it is nearly impossible to un-sieze them and get them to work properly. You should probably look into greasing the slides in the future.

Check the brake hoses too. They may be swelled shut inside, not very common but it does happen.

Just pull the trouble brakes. They are shot. I was able to compress the pistons back into place pretty easily so hopefully it's not a caliper problem.

Talked to the guy at the auto parts store and he said he cant remember ever selling a caliper for these trucks. Rotors and brakes yes.
He said (like MJB & MTU said) to grease up the slides and all. Going to try that for now and hope that thats the problem.
Wchuck, the hoses seam to be OK.

Thanks for the reply's.
