Gents,

I could use some help. I have a 2007 GMC K3500 Reg. Cab. I brought the truck down from Michigan and have not had a single problem until last Sunday. Getting on the freeway, the CEL popped on and it feels like the truck is not shifting as normal. In to a local dealer on Monday morning. The dealer sates that it was a "History Code" and cleared it, telling me I was good to go. Fast forward to the next time I drive the truck this Weds. morning. Getting on the freeway the CEL comes on again. I finish the 30mi. trip to work and take it into a dealer near my office. Dealers says the truck is throwing four codes and has a tranny problem. Now I'm pissed.

The truck has 11k miles. I don't tow and don't hammer it around town. Any ideas on a common problem I may be encountering.

BTW, I went to the dealer near my work after calling every dealer I could find on the GM website only to be told that they really didn't work on the diesel trucks. Seems that nobody in the Miami area knows how to work on the d-max or ally. So my questions are these:

1. Does anyone know of a good dealer near the Miami area for service?

2. Should I trust this dealership to do any work on my tranny or am I asking for more problems? (Ed Morris in Broward County)

3. Any ideas what it may be (I know I don't have the codes so this may be impossible)?

Any help would be appreciated. BTW the first dealer who worked on the truck also did an oil change for me at the same time and left the truck 2 qts low. WTF, aren't these guys trained?

Any help is appreciated.

Any help is appreciated. If you wanna a hear about untrained dealers and jerks, read my low rail pressure saga thread. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNYYYY YYYYYYY of these sdealers stink. Anyone can sell you anything, but everythign mechanical will have problems everything. W/no service, the best product in the world aint worth nothing. If its truly a tranny problem, you can take it to an allison dealer. Allison dealers dont want to really work on the trucks ecu, or sensors, unless they are on the trans sitself. Finding a dealer that is competent will either make it a hiccup or a long drawn out nightmare, gm needs to get their dealers together, require training.

Why was the fluid level low, you obviously have a leak somewhere. This may be part of the problem, tranny's can do weird things when they are starved of fluid under aceleration and deceleration. I am saying this because you stated that both times the CEL came on you were getting on the freeway and i am guessing you acelerating to freeway speed so the trans could have starved itself of fluid for a moment. This would mean loss of prime, pressure and could cause the trans to go into limp-in mode. When it regains its prime/pressure the code set will automatically become a history code. Just my two cents anyway. I would top off fluid level and see what happens.

Gents,

Thanks for the replies. Once I get the codes from the dealer, I'll post them here. The truck is still at the dealer with no updates. Grrrr. We'll see if he knows what to do. Any thoughts on a decent dealer near Miami--I'll some distance if needed.

Gents,

Just got the truck back yesterday after 8 days at the dealer. The truck was throwing codes p0700 and p0741. Dealer replaced pump assembly in the tranny, seals, torque converter et al.. This was all done in accordance with a internal PI. I'm not sure what that all means, but I'll repost later when I have more time--running out to work. I am a bit concerned that my new truck (11k mi) needed a tranny rebuild that totaled 3300.00$. All covered under warranty but now I'm worried abou the future of this truck. Any advice is appreciated.

Ed Morse GMC in Broward did the work. I had a very positive experience with the dealer's service department. Nice folks and it seems they are they are the only dealer in town who will willingly work on the D/A. There may be others, but I sure haven't found them yet. Overall, great experience with this dealership.

I've still got some nagging worries about why the truck would have to have such a major repair so early.

If anyone has some feedback, I'd sure appreciate it.

Fajitatone-- where do you go to have work done? Any suggestions on where to buy fuel and get service would be greatly appreciated. I'm still new to the area and learning my way around. Thanks in advance.

croesus,
I bought mine at Brickell Motors in Downtown Miami, but I live 4 blocks from Tropical Cheverolet in Miami Shores. I have taken my baby to Tropical for the first services, but I am looking for a place that will service D/A combo, "just in case". I had no problems with Tropical, but they only did fluid changes, and I think I will be doing those on my own from now on.

There are not that many places that do warranty work on our engines. Outlaw Diesel in Hialeah has ASE/ADS mechanics, and they build some pretty sick trucks. You can give them a shout too.
