I finally decided to go with HIDs. I started researching, as usual, and now I have a headache :(

Since I have OEM Denali projectors I know I will need to order 9005, or equivalent, bulbs. I am torn between 4300, 5000, or 6000K. I will probably get the 6k. I know I need to order a kit that incorporates a relay as to not burn out the factory wiring.

Then theres the 35 vs 50 watt debate. And the HIDs are worthless in factory housings debate. And HIDs wont work in denali projectors period.

I am gonna bite the bullet and order some up.

I have heard X-Beam is a good kit but dont know where to order them from.

I also need a set for my cousins 2003 Dodge 1500. They are 9007 bulbs and he would like to retain his high beams.

Could someone PM me where I can get (I know I'm asking for a lot) knowledgeable service, good price, good product, no crap. Ebay is flooded with these things and I don't know where to order from.

I will do my best to do a full writeup on the install when I get them

Thanks

I've always ordered mine from XenonDepot.com ...they are REAL Philips Ballasts and Bulbs NOT fakes. They come with relays and everything you need to get up and running.

I've always ran 4300k in my vehicles. It's the temp. all OEM HID's are, and will give you the most light output.

I'd stay away from the 50w kits, unless it's a true 50w non-modded ballast and a true 50w bulb and not a going-to-be-over-driven 35w.

Thanks for the advice. I went with visionbulbs.com I had read good things about their kits and the price was right 15% off plus free shipping. I got the 6000K which I read was the perfect trade off of color and light output. Came with a relay harness and all that good stuff. I got a tracking # the day after I ordered and I will post up pics of the install as soon as it gets here.

They are 35 watt and will hopefully work with my denali projectors.

If I may....

I started this thread here for discussion on all lighting upgrades including how to's...

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=127125

I'd like to ask that you continue this discussion there or I can merge it, its up to you.

I recently bought HID's from Ebay and they work awesome. I've included pictures of before, after and the locations where I mounted the ballasts...

Some websites call the bulbs 4300's and some call them 5000's. I think they're the same thing. Thats the whitest light you can get and the higher the number, or color temp, the bluer or more purple they're gonna be with less actual light output. The 4300's or 5000's are rated for the highest actual light output.

Also, please dont put a link in here for a site...Its not allowed mainly because we have vendors here, who support this site, to keep it running free for us, that sell HID kits...

Sorry for the problems, I was not aware that vendors here sold HIDs.

Merge the threads if you like. I saw the other thread and it has alot of commentary that makes it hard to read through. It should be narrowed down to just a tech article and posted separately the evolution of dmax lighting or something to that effect.

Then theres the 35 vs 50 watt debate. And the HIDs are worthless in factory housings debate. And HIDs wont work in denali projectors period.

HIDs must be installed in a dedicated housing e.g. headlights with seperate bulbs for low and high beam. This debate started when HIDs hit the aftermarket and people were installing them in headlights that had a single reflector and the position of the bulb filament changed the light output from low to high beam. Since the HID bulb doesn't have a filament, there was no way to differentiate from low to high beam in these housings. The lights are in simple terms lighting up low and high beam at the same time causing the light to be "scattered" since there was no longer a cut-off point.
HIDs will work fine in the Denali projectors also.

Well, I did also order a set of Bi-Xenon 9007s for my cousin... So we will see how that works out. Supposedly they work well, interesting insight tho. Thanks for the info.

That's what I've been wanting to hear. There are some Toshiba HIR high's delivered today on my doorstep. I agree, there are several old posts specifically about HID's in Denali housings, and whether it would work or not. If you get good results, please let us know, 'cause the answer is not in the "ultimate lighting" thread.

I am going to hopefully get a detailed writeup done about the HIDs in the denali projectors with plenty of before and after shots in a new thread.

If I may ask, what exactly are you looking for for lighting? We pretty much discussed all kinds of lighting in there. Is there something we missed?

Just like the OP, I have searched ad nauseam for using HID kits in Denali housings. No consensus that I've seen. Some said it won't work because the Denali low beam projector lens wasn't designed for HID, and would cause excess glare/scatter. I haven't seen anybody using HID's in Denali housings on the forum. Perhaps my search-fu is weak.

No offense meant, your lighting thread is very helpful. Got the lead for the Toshiba HIR bulbs from there. They work pretty good, especially all 4 high-beams in the Denali lamps.

Yes, after much searching I found there was a distinct lack of Denali specific HID information on this and other forums in any thread. I could not find a conclusive answer to whether it would work or not.

I bit the bullet and am going to try and clear it up for others.

A 9005 HID conversion bulb WORKS IN A DENALI HOUSING :D

I installed them last night and they look great. The projector helps to keep from blinding people and they are very bright. The 6000k lamps were perfect. I will post some night pics in the morning.

Edit: They are factory Denali housings, not aftermarket ones.

SWEET! Dammit, now I have to do it. I guess I'll just leave the Toshiba HIR's in the high beams, and get HID's for the lows. What are you using for high beams?

Hey, what can I say? You answered the million dollar question (thanks!) and they were on sale with free shipping.

"Umm, yeah, honey. They've always been this bright. They came from the factory that way, I'm surprised you hadn't noticed before. . ."
