: how many turns for the big head actuator
fredw 10-25-2004, 05:18 PM looking to see what you others are running for boost and how many turns that it would be to get their, called banks, they said about seven turns for 32 psi and it is not always the same which each vehicle, thanks for the inputhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
Amric 10-25-2004, 06:08 PM I think I am currently at 8 turns and 34psi.
Got Juice? 10-25-2004, 06:46 PM LOL set gate using an air compressor, 28 lbs initial lift and no higher
NO HIGHER!
If more than 1500'ASL set to 26lbs initial
Not trying to rain on a parade, but there are only 2 turbos on ebay right nowhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
Mackin 10-25-2004, 06:50 PM I dunno how you guys are running 32+ PSI .At 31 ish I can bark the turbo on upshifts and converter lock up.
I have achieved 42 PSI on a Superflow but that's neither here or there.

Powerbarking is worse than a normal bark mac, ease up a bit. Or start watching Ebay.... i have a little experience therehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif
Any porting work done? What elevation?

BADDMAX396 10-26-2004, 01:52 PM NINE TURNS HERE TO GET 28 ONLY PULLING DOWN THE ROAD. EMPTY GETS 26 PSI. HAVE HAD A FEW BARKS!!
Amric 10-26-2004, 04:53 PM I can bark the turbo in the low 20psi range. Above that (for me at least) the boost PSI has nothing to do with barking the turbo. It is all in how smoothly you release the throttle. I use Co-Pilot tuning to ensure that is does not bark under WOT, and only have to worry about barking it on deceleration. It is most prone to occur when you decel right before a shift. Once I get into it, I stay into it until 5th gear and ease out slowly. I have been past 38psi without barking the turbo. Of course it only takes one time to blow it up. Just ask Got Juicehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif.
For anyone not willing to take any risks, keep your stock actuator instead of the Banks, and ensure your shifts do not bind up, pulling down the motor too quickly.

I hit 35 PSI with mine with an occasional mild throttle let-off bark. Woofs pretty good coming out of the water box.
Otherwise it never barks on upshifts, must be my soft shifting Stage 4 compared to your Stage 5. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
Nothing like pushing the limits...

tbone 10-27-2004, 10:21 PM Is this banks wastegate worth the money, I use my truck all day pulling a 40" trailer. Currently I have exhaust, hypertech set at 90 and all gauges. Was thinking about upgrading ,right only about 23psi under a load. Any hepl would be helpful
fredw 12-26-2004, 04:36 PM now over a few months exspeirence with it i will say, it made a nice improvement, cleaned the smoke up and gave quicker spool up off the start, thumbs up
LBZrcks 12-26-2004, 10:09 PM I think that the banks waste gate is worth having and installing but not worth the $200+/-, its worth closer to $100 to me, just my .02cents

ya you are right their:) , should be half the price:ro)
john@dps 12-27-2004, 10:35 AM A word of caution to you partners running 32 to 35 on the turbo. One spike on the shift from 4th to 5th gear and its all over. Trust me I know, I'm a victim of it myself. Got juice is right without question, set it lower to prepare for that one uncontrolable turbo spike. If you are running 32 or higher on a average between all the gears it is a matter of time before you lose it. Our was lost simply by changing altitudes and temp, we dropped 1000' and 20 degrees that was all it took to spike the turbo to the snapping point. If you are running close to the limit, best watch any changes in weather and altitude. Got Juice has found his wastegate needs to start opening and operating at 26 PSI to catch up to the spike that will be coming at that unexpected moment. Ours runs around 28PSI to handle the spike between 4th and 5th. Not to say that some have run and are still running high with no problems, this post is for the masses because there will always be the occasional truck that runs good and doesn't lose the turbo. For the rest of us the wastegate needs to be set for and average lower than what you want to compensate for the atmospheric changes that affect the PSI levels. It is the best way to be safe without having to worry about running right on the line and watching the altimeter and temp. gauges. John
fredw 12-27-2004, 11:44 AM thanks john, good info
so then we should be pressuring up our bighead, and at 28 psi our head should start to be moving the control arm to open the wastegate, will look for a regulator today, thanks fred
lly101 12-27-2004, 01:15 PM Ran my LB7 at 35 psi a lot but carefully and towed a lot, turbo lived and ran real hard. Lucky I guess. Saw 43 psi wen I went to lower alt once.
DMAXON44'S 01-04-2005, 10:32 AM No more than 9 turns.. Mine was at 11 turns 5,000 miles and the turbo let go, in turn blew the motor...It would peg my 35 psi gauge by just hammering it through 3rd gear then it would hit over 35#. It would bark all the time not always sounding cool either
fredw 01-04-2005, 01:58 PM last night i went to hockey, on the way home, 1145pm, it was -31c came to the lights, then pinned it, my boost hit a high of 38.7 psi in fifth, barking often, never had this happen before, so i guess the outside temperture had something to do with it
fredw 01-04-2005, 02:00 PM No more than 9 turns.. Mine was at 11 turns 5,000 miles and the turbo let go, in turn blew the motor...It would peg my 35 psi gauge by just hammering it through 3rd gear then it would hit over 35#. It would bark all the time not always sounding cool either
you say it took the motor out, refering to debre making in the intake, must of really blew that thing, any more info on what happened
Dieselholic 01-04-2005, 10:34 PM Fred,
Please take a turn or two (or three) out of your wastegate buddy:(. Your gonna be walking at 11:45 pm when it's -31 deg. outside some night-:t. 34-35 psi abosolute peak spike...30-32 max. steady pressure, stacking as you do (I met you ay Lyndon's) really fuels hard on the upshifts:cool:, save that turbo, not a lot to be gained running up there as the drive pressure is really high by that point. Have you been back to see Lyndon yet for the update?
Todd.:)
fredw 01-05-2005, 01:40 AM hi todd: did it today, scared the hell out of me, sent it up to him a few days ago, finnally got the rest of my stacks, next week will be at the dyno to figure out everything, keep you informed, what is your feelings on the latest version, thanks fred
Got Juice? 01-05-2005, 02:39 AM Don't worry guys... there is always Ebay for Turbos.... but i don't see any on there right at the moment...
Better take a turn out
Dieselholic 01-09-2005, 08:25 PM Fred,
I really like the lastst version, it's very stock like (noise, feel) until you push the go pedal then, well, you know the rest:cool:. The noise is all gone but the power remains, really curious about your dyno results:ro), try to baseline run it first if you can as close to stock as possible, then mix & match from their:D, remember to roll out of the throttle at all times or you'll be bidding against Got Juice on E-bay b\4 you know it buddy:rolleyes:.
Todd.
Got Juice? 01-09-2005, 09:09 PM bidding against Got Juice on E-bay b\4 you know it buddy:rolleyes:.

Screw that..... I have 3 words for you buddy):h
