Can anyone explain the system Cummins uses to replace glow plugs

Easy..... there are no glow plugs.



Just an intake heater. It's right on the drivers side of the engine
where the intake plenum drops onto the head. You'll see a couple of big
wires connected to it. It's square......

GM uses both intake heater and glow plugs.

The other reason is effectiveness. A grid heater system is much more effective than a classic glow plug system. Not to mention reliability. Glow plugs will wear out by the nature of the environment they operate in. Grid heaters will last much, much longer.
