Ok, a new one for me. 3 times in the last 6 months, same senario. Ambient Temperature doesn't seem to be a factor. Here goes:

Idle down the street (or in a parking lot) in Drive, 4-6mph, get ready to increase speed, step on the throttle gently (close quarters in traffic, NO launching!) and the engine stumbles and dies. Hit the key and she fires right up and takes off normally, until yesterday. Issue yesterday was similar but the engine acts like a gasser when its loaded up (flooded) and had to feather the throttle for 100-150 feet (through the intersection) until she seemed to take off and run normally. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif I pulled into a parking lot and tried to make the issue duplicate itself. I could not duplicate the behavior.

OEM and CAT fuel filters are about 5-6000 miles old. 2/3's full of fuel in tank. OEM airfilter (looks clean) and sensor says 0 restriction. First time I had the problem I had an AMSOIL filter installed (removed since the "Spicer Report") Normal Juice (4.81) level4. No SES light. All three times I did not have my seatbelt fastened yet. All three times the engine was at normal operating temperature. No smoke before or after dieing and restarting. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

First time it happened was about 3-4 months ago as I left the driveway and as soon as I hit the key she roared into life and drove normally. Second time was about 2 months ago, I was idleing across a parking lot and ready to pull onto the street, hit the throttle - dies. Hit the key and runs normal.

Ok, ask away or point me in a direction!

Take off the juice for starters....

What version of juice are you running?

Mine (version 4.71) did the same thing.... 4.81 seems to have solved the problem.

I have the 4.81 installed (since last spring). Like I said its only happened 3 times in the last 4 months. Only happens when coming off idle and accelerating very lightly. Otherwise normal behavior.

Eric, what would a symptom of a High Pressure Fuel Regulator failure look like? Like I said earlier it acts like its either starving or flooded, but no smoke. Being this intermittent would a code be set?

BTW, last week I left the headlights on (deliberately), had to jump start from the wifes Mitsubishi (ow, that hurt too!) and the engine has been turning a little slower to start, looks like its gonna have to be Optima in the near future. I tell this part just for added info.

Mitchagain,
This sounds like something I've experienced twice since July when I installed the Juice/Attitude.

I cannot reproduce it on demand. Both times it happened with the juice set on #2, and both times the engine was up to operating temp, recently restarted, idling, and pulling into traffic. Upon pressing the accelerator pedal, the engine acted like the fuel was completely cut off. When the engine did die, it restarted immediately. The problem persisted for 30-45 seconds and 3 or 4 acceleration attempts, then the problem went away. I have not had further incidents since late July.

Edge just sent the 4.81 to replace the 4.73 due to a recent no start with the 4.73. Though I could quit worrying about these problems but with this latest news I guess not. This issue with the 4.81 seems to be worst than the no start as you can be in traffic when it dies. Edge better get to the bottom of this and recall these ver.4.81 boxes if they are the culprit. Someone's going to eventually pull out in traffic and get killed by oncoming traffic. I will put this new 4.81 for sale if anyone wants it (never installed) Just don't feel like carrying the guilt from some negative impact on my family that I would be responsible for. I'd rather upgrade the tranny and not even have to worry about backing down power. Edited by: a bear

Ok, so everyone that has had a similar issue has had a 4.81 box installed and so far there are only 3 of us? Are there more out there? After having Juice now for a long time, living without it would be like living without sex..... can be done but very boring existance!

If there are some among us that have had a similar behavior with no juice, I would sure like to hear about it. Otherwise, I will contact the good old boys in Utah and see what they think could be the problem. As good as the customer support has been from the Juice guys, I am more than willing to let them sort this out if indeed the issue is related to the 4.81 units.

Let me clarify my last post. The 4.73 caused a no start to a cold engine in my driveway. They just sent the 4.81 but I have not installed it yet. The majority of my last post was to express my concern with the new 4.81 box. I consider the stall with the 4.81 much more dangerous than a no start because you will be in traffic when it happens. I'll edit my last post because I find it misleading.

I had no problems with the 4.73 for 1.5 years until it went into limp mode while driving 75mph. Called edge jarred sent me a 4.81 in aug. First problem i've had don't know if it's the edge might just be somthing funky.

I have had it stall 3 times ver 4.81 left me sticking out in traffic till I got it started. I unhooked edge truck was fine. Hooked it back up didn't have any problems till the day after I sprayed down the engine compartment got to thinking every time I had the stalls was after I washed the truckhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif Have not had any stalls for 4months now. I was told it was the water turning to steam and causing a short. Who knows

I've had this happen to me a few times..four now I think. The first was bone stock. The second was with regular old Juice trird and forth with Hot Attitude...all different temps, never in the rain...

I upgraded to the 4.81 to cure the no start, and have since had one stall situation similar to the above described. I have to say my first thought was the Juice. I have had nearly every version since the 3.0....with glitches along the way.Edited by: motovet

I have not had my issues with the stalling/dieing after an engine clean.

OK, with these instances that are being posted, I will contact the Juice guys and see if they have other reports and ask if there is any upgrades in the near future. I'll keep you all posted.

BTW, if there are any others that are having a similar issue, please report them in this post so we have a log of incidences that Juice can refer to. The more information is the better on each incident.

BTW, the customer service from Juice has be great in the past and I have no reason to think that the "Juice Boys" and Aaron will fix what ever might be causing this problem, if indeed it is a Juice issue. BlueOx03 report may throw a different light on the total issue

Edge tells me there was a hardware change shortly after the ver.4.81 release to address the stall issue. (About a month after release) However the version number didn't change. He asked for the mfg. date on my new module which is 10/12/04. He said I would not have a stall problem with this later unit. He sounded very convincing so I will go ahead and install this unit. Looks like they took care of the problem. On the other hand I will remove it if I have a single stall. Stalls are just too dangerous.

I sent an email and a voicemail to Juice Tech Support and Aaron but have not heard back yet. a bear glad to hear that you got some news. Did Aaron give you a build date to check for? Mine came out right after the 4.81 was released. I'll call again and see what the date to check for is.

BTW, I got no SES light or a code.

I had this stall problem happen to me back in September on my way home from a Moose hunt. I was going about 15mph and it stalled several times within 2 miles. I finally found a spot to pull over so I opened the hood and I pushed down on the primer and it felt soft like I had just changed the fuel filter. I pumped it until it got hard and I started the truck up and haven't had that problem again. But now I have a no start problem that is happening quite frequent. Last night it wouldn't start, after checking several different things, I disconnected the juick and it started right up. I believe I have the 4.73 version. Will juice techs update my unit or replace my unit? Who do I contact? What has everyone else done?

Thanks, Jeff

This may be out of date but I`m just home from our cross canada trip and I had a similiar experience. A dealer checked my 02 1T Dmax out, changed the Hi p fuel filter and solved the problem. I use a chip set at level 1 (40HP) and carry a 11.5 camper. If your still asking hope this helps.

How do I go about getting my juice updated? My home computer crashed a few months ago and I lost all my email data and I don't have the name or phone number of the individuals I bought it from. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jeff

Dack, the "Hi p fuel filter" you referenced, do you mean the Racor filter?

dack
11-11-2004, 01:26 PM
Sorry, do`nt know if it was a Racor filter but the GM part # is 89016324. The garage in Gillette Wyoming also told me that once the motor senses a plugged filter it will prevent full power to protect the motor. Cost to me was 109 US$

I had stalls and no starts with version 4.81 with a build date of April 2004. Edge told me they have had several problems with these and sent me a new one. It would also throw a crank shaft position code. No problems since I installed the new one.

I had never had a "no start" until the first of November, then it happened twice in about 2 weeks. Originally blamed it on the 'air in the filter' problem, but there was none. First time the Dmax fired up after about 2-3 tries. Second time she didn't start until I pulled the Juice. Reinstalled the Juice, no start. Called Edge boys and they asked about the manufature date, 04/02/04. They shipped me a new one, no questions asked. Got the same reply "yep, we know about that, its on the board, the program is the same, 4.81".

Man, those guys at Edge understand the meaning of service! Got the new unit in 2 working days (Tuesday before thanksgiving) with a prepaid label for the return of the old unit. I brag on their service to anyone willing to stand still long enough. Great bunch!!! Highly recommend product and service!

Ok...my Dmax also did this for the first time on Saturday twice. Same deal, idling to a stop then getting on it to go....it felt like too much fuel got into her and she died. It scared the crAAp out of me, cranked it up again started fine got on it again the same thing happened again. Put the 4ways on and let everything de-power and she re-started ok and it acted like nothing happened.

Anyone find out the cause or the cure to this problem.

Thanks

Check the manufacture date on your Juice, then call the boys at Edge in UT. You may have a known issue and they may be abe to help you as much as they did me.

I've had the same thing happen 3 times in the last month or so with mine, except it has happenned on level 5 and 3.
When I get into the throttle then let off it has died a couple of times. I was driving on Sunday at about 55mph - got in the throttle to about 65 and let off - DIED !! I went to neutral and she started right up.

I just now went out and turned on the switch to check which version I am running and it says GM v1.4. Am I that far behind the times???
And if so, how do I upgrade?

 sorry - didn't read far enough into the thread before I posted.
Thanks-
