Is the D/A trailer brake ready? If so, what do I need besides the brake controller? Thanks

That's it.

U have the pigtail and adapter in glove box.

Some controllers come plug and play, but I soldered my Hayes unit to the pigtail.

If u have trailer hot line u need to put the fuse in box under hood.Edited by: Dmax Tim

I used a Prodigy brake controller, It wired right to the pigtail that should have came with your truck. works great!

Thought you only get that stuff if you got the trailer wire option (can't remember the rpo)

I'm not sure I'm following what you guys are saying regarding the brake controller. I was under the impression I had to have a trailer place hard wire the unit under the dash. Can I just buy one and plug it in somewhere. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm doing this now on my newly arrived '05 Sierra. I ordered it with the trailer harness option, I think it was 35 bucks. The harness with the fuse was in the glove box when I picked it up. I ordered a Prodigy from rjays.com and, since I am electronically challenged and rjays was offering a great deal on the Prodigy and the "plug and play" harness, I ordered both. Very smart even if I do say so myself. All I did was plug one end into the the spot under the dash per the instructions and the other end to the Prodigy and mount it on the lower dash. It worked perfectly. No fuss, no splicing, no soldering. Now I'm trying to figure out the 6 way plug on my old trailer and how I can adapt it to my 7 pin new truck...

Dwilson,

Most auto parts stores have "plug & play" adaptors that go from 7 -
6 way or 7 - 4 way flat. I think I paid aroud 8 bucks for
my adaptor from Oreillys auto parts (local auto parts store), or you
might try a web search if you can't find one locally.

Do you guys like the Prodigy ? I have the Tekoneosha (sp?) and dont much care for the grippy brake action. Maybe they all do that though>?!

FASTOYS,

You'll like the Prodigy. It's made by Tekonsha, but is much more sophisticated than the old style time delay controllers. Set correctly, which is very easy to do, you won't have anymore "grippy" stops. It definitely won't drive you nuts in stop and go traffic. It's very versatile. I've towed trailers from about 2,500lbs to my current unit, which grosses 11,700lbs, but I probably tow at around 10k. Adjusting the settings between the trailers literally takes about 10 seconds, tops. The Jordan controller is also excellent by all reports and the BrakeSmart is probably the current state of the art. It is similar to the OE system Ford is offering in its new ‘05s. It taps into the hydraulic system and gives true proportional braking without any computer hocus pocus, like the Prodigy. From the few owner reports I've read it appears to be an terrific system and an equally terrific price. The Prodigy is so good, however, that I'll happily accept my standing as the owner of an "inferior" device and apply the savings to something else, like new tow mirrors, a new exhaust system, or a chip.
