Thankful

I usually have my window up so I've not noticed this before, but when going through a fast food drive through, I noticed a very loud noise (clunk) when shifting into park. It would do it about 6 or 7 times out of the ten times I did it. Dually has 3,800 miles on it so it's under warranty. Anyone know what it might be?

I've noticed the same thing with my '06 LLY, I would say it only happens 3-5 times out of ten. Maybe it's just Chattanooga trucks... I am in school at UGA now but I'm from Chattanooga.

If it only does it going into park and not into neutral then it's probably the parking pawl engaging.

So, I assume, you think it's normal?

It's normal. Thats the park paw engaging. I've had 3 DMax's and they all did it from the day they were new. If your on an incline it is ususally more noticable.

x2. The parking pawl on the Allison is huge, to hold your truck plus whatever you are towing.

Yeah same here I just bought a new lmm 2500hd GMC, and it would do that as well, I have already brought it into the dealer they said it was a normal operation of characteristic. but at time it's very loud, this friday the truck will be going in again for the same concern. I can see that noise occuring when youre slightly moving forward and placing the shifter into park happening, but it also does it when im at a complete stop for about a minute then putting into park.
Normal, when the allisons first came out in 01 every one who had one seemed to come in to my dealer concerned that their trans was falling apart......

Mine does this too! Yes this is normal. I have found that if you put it in neutral first then in park no noise.

It is normal. I read it in the owners manual. It is designed to hold 22,000 lbs while parked on a incline. I thought the trans. was locking up also.

I noticed it too. Sometimes I don't hear it because the doorlocks are popping open at the same time.
