Hey guys,

A friend of mine wants to purchase a new '05 D-Max, I'm a Dodge/Cummins guy, however - A diesel enthusiast of all makes, which is one of the reasons I belong to this & other diesel forums. If he was buying a Dodge/Cummins, I could give him all the info he would need, but he really likes the seats in the Chev and therefore is making his decision based on that.

So - Here goes:

1 - What issues should he be concerned with on the new LLY?

2 - What rear axle ratio should he get, he will be towing about a 9K 5th wheel only about four trips per year.

3 - What are the main differences from the previous generation D-Max.

4 - Are there any dealers out there who will sell at invoice, WA state area. I thought Dave Smith Motors out of Kellog, ID would at one time.

5 - What are true MPG figures for city - Stop & Go & hi-way (empty & towing) 2WD preferebly.

6 - Any other information greatly appreciated.

No real worries about the new LLY. Injectors are outside of the valve cover for easier replacement. It has 10 more horsepower and the 05 has 605 lb/ft of torque. It also has a variable vane turbo instead of the IHI on the 1st gen Dmax. The LLy, based on what I have seen here and heard from my customers, is that the mileage is not quite as good. I would suspect that about 14.5-15mpg mixed city/hwy and maybe 18 on the hwy empty. Towing is an unknown without knowing what kind of trailer one is pulling. The 3.73 axle ratio is the only available, but you have a better range of gears witht the 5 speed Allison transmission.
