I asked about a program udate at the dealer when they replaced my injector, they said there isnt any avalable for the duramax. Is this because i am in canada and we dont get anything untill long after the states does?

Took my 04 LLY in for an oil change at 3500 miles as well as changing the Allison spin filter. Requested all the latest computer updates and they complied. They did ask why and I say because I wanted all the latest engine and transmission updates.

Aron420,

I had the same problem in california until I had a problem with my truck. I found that if you can try a couple of different dealers you may find 1 that knows what is going on. Good luck

Aron420,

Not sure if this is vaild in Canada, but this is what I took to my stealer last week to get the latest reflash:

04 6.6 LLY Smoke, Fuel Knock, Surging, and High Injector Balance Rates

.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

Customer concern may be a low speed surge (8 to 10 mph or near 1000 RPM), acceleration fuel knock noise at 1500 to 1800 RPM, rough idle, white smoke at idle, or high positive injector balance rates.

Recommendation/Instructions:

<LI ="1">High positive injector balance rates (over +4.0 in park or +6.0 in drive) may be causing white smoke at idle or while driving.
<LI ="1">Document all injector cylinder balance rates at the beginning of the diagnosis.
<LI ="1">There is an updated calibration to address the white smoke, high positive balance rates, idle surge, and a fuel knock noise at or near 1500 to 1800 RPM.
<LI ="1">Install the updated calibration and evaluate the smoking, high injector balance rates, idle surge, and fuel knock noises.
<LI ="1">If there is still a mechanical concern with an injector, and balance rates are still over the SI specification of +4.0 in park or +6.0 in drive, replace only the effected injector.

NOTE: Before any injector replacements a large fuel sample should be taken from the fuel filter and checked for contaminants or poor quality.

This is the correct info. The dealer must have his Tech2 up to date to check for a reflash. I had the same problem until my dealer updated his Tech2 then it showed him the reflash.

just noticed something... looks like all the folks that have Chevy Duramax's are getting the updates and the folks like me that have a GMC Duramax are getting no where. they are both apart of GM why would GMC not have the updates and Chevy would??

I was told hands down by the service manager that there is no update for my duramax yet the chevy dealer has updated someone elses locally.

briano,

You need to find another GMC stealer that "knows" his job! He definitely is not aware or he does not care to help you. Take it to your friends Chevy dealer and get it done. Period!!

When I see a LLY come in, even if its just for an oil change, I do the update for it. I get paid to do it, and its easy, so whynot?

I am just curious? Is there any reason not to get the update done? Mine seems to be running fine and does not exhibit any issues reported here. I have a Feb 04 model, I am positive I have the old programming. Your thoughts please?

I had my 04 GMC LLY in for an axel seal leak and they did the re-flash. I feel it lost power after they did it. Has anybody else noticed this? Socaldieseltech? There is no more black smoke now as well.

I finally got a chance to call another GMC dealer here in town..I told the guy what issues was seeing although they weren't bad and also told him about the PIP number that SteveNorCal posted above.

This guy actually did call me back and said there was in fact an update for it and to bring it in SO...anyone in the Central Austin area please STAY AWAY from Maxwell GMC. This makes twice they have screwed me.

thanks for all the info and support, site is great

I got mine done and had no problem before, however it did make it less noisy under acceleration. I am very happy!!!

I took mine in for the re-flash on Friday. Dealer (GMC) returned it
saying they didn't have the re-flash even though they update their Tech
II every two weeks and couldn't find any info on it even though I gave
him copies of the above info. They said they would keep checking.

I've since called another dealer that actually has a diesel mechanic.
They didn't know anything either but were eager to check. I faxed them
copies of the info and they are going to check into it and call me back.

.......to continue......
