When I R&R'd my sender unit it was broken, as was the new one I was putting in. The armature that holds the float is held by cheap plastic clips that are easily broken. I wired mine up before installing it, in order to repair and strengthen it. Prior to the R&R my fuel gauge was really eratic.
You should fillout your sig so we know what you're driving. Then it's easier to help.

It could be bad chassis grounds too...these trucks are plagued with electrical issues...

fysh guide - i have to repair my sender as well. It was "bouncing" for a while then it finally landed on "full" and never moves (i checked the ground well and am sure it is the sender).
could you, or anyone, explain in a little more detail how to fix it?
on mine, i don't think the thing that holds the float is broken off (i checked it out) but rather there is a bad electrical connection somewhere in the resistor. Can that be fixed? I know there is power going to the sender.
thanks,
paul
