Greetings!

When I bought my truck I knew it had been repainted. The lady who owned it before me must have liked to follow gravel trucks real close, and the bed rail was all beat up.

The new paint looks good, except for a few parts on the bed. I'm going to line it anyway, so im happy.. Whoever put the badges back on was a r-tard though. So I am trying to take them off. Under the Silverado and Duramax was the normal black looking stuff. Under the LT badges was some yellowish looking gunk, and I can't get it off. I have tried 3m adhesive remover, 3m brake cleaner, goo gone, a heat gun, laquer thinner, and just about everything else the guys at part store tell me to use and it still woln't come off. Any hints?

Thanks

Looks as though you may be boned, i cant tell what it is they used but i bet it has damaged the paint or you will damage the paint upon removal. I only use 3M 2 sided tape for any adhesions as i am sure will do. I would see if soaking the area with a soaked rag of thinners to see if it will soften up. Try not to soak the paint/clear as it will be damaged after prolonged exposure. If you use the heat gun keep the heat low but i think you will find it is going to harden the glue. You could also try using a paint run remover which is basically a razor blade or a series of blades that will cut the excess paint just above the paint level. You can buy one at any body supply shop. Good luck.

I agree with the use of a citrus solvent. I think I would heavily dampen a cloth that is just larger the the glue spot with the citrus solvent and tape it over the spot. Let it sit for about an hour and then try to gently push and scrape that mess off with a plastic putty knife.

Good luck.

Try a MBX vinyl eraser, your local sign shop should have one, if that don't get it off it want come off.

That looks like panel bond or seam sealer. Be careful or it'll take the paint off. Try that citrus cleaner, you can try a pinstripe removing wheel. They go into the end of your drill and it looks like a tan round eraser that spins and takes goop off. That looks a lot like the panel bond I use to put 1/4 panels on with.Try to get it out in the sun and let it get hot and try the citrus. That might do it. A blow torch always works.

I put the Goo Gone to it, no help. Soaked it with Goo Gone in the hot sun, no go. Maybe I need to get one of those pinstripe wheels.

It looks like panel glue or maybe vynl floor adhesive. There is a stripper for the floor adhesive but I think it would probably take your paint off too. If it raised up above the surface have you tried sanding it with a really fine grit paper (400-600)? You might be able to sand it off and just polish the area with a buffing wheel.

If its the panel bond, forget it. Youll be doing some paint work. did you try one of those pinstripe wheels yet?

goop off at home depot! removes Line-X overspray with ease! Wipe some on a cloth wipe the glue let sit for about 40 seconds and clean! goop off two works well also but nothing like goop off I. - B

The stuff lowes sells has no effect on your paint. I tried some of that this weekend

You would be really hard pressed to buff out 4-600 grit scratches:eek:

it appears to be either methacrylate (crazy glue) or 5 minute epoxy. there is nothing your going to do without damage to the paint. either product has already damaged the paint. find a dent removal/spot repair outfit. used car dealers use these people all the time. done right, you'll never know there was a repair.

Ok so some people are saying im hosed, others say I still have a shot at getting it off. How about this, I go ask the guy who did it what the hell he used, and then we can decide if it comes off or not.

I'll ask him tomorrow and give you guys an update. If it doesn't come off, maybe ill just put the LT badges back on and take the others off. Either way it looks bad right now.

Oh and yes, I did try thinner. But I didn't let it sit at all.

Also I haven't tried the pinstripe wheel yet. No one in town has one, and a few people at the shops around here have expressed their concern. Yet, these are same people who told me my tranny was busted when I just needed a new fuel filter.

Looks like the old 3M Plastic emblem adhesive they used to sell at Paint Stores. I am not sure how to get it off but I do remember using that stuff years ago when it was yellow like that. Sorry I am not much help.

Paint and Body shop can get it off, just drop in and have them remove it.
