Was at local car show and saw a 1982 Monte with a 5.7 diesel in it. It was completely stock and factory. The car was rust free but the paint was grungy. He drove it to the show and had a for sale sign in it. $2800 if I remember correctly.
It had diesel tags on the front fenders under the Monte emblem and on the fuel gauge it said Diesel Fuel Only.
Thought it was pretty cool.

Did you notice how many miles are on it?

Never even heard of one myself. Sounds like a GM odd-ball that might have escaped testing and got sold to the general public.

in the early 80's Gm offered almost all their vehicles with diesels
A friend in college had a 5.7 diesel in an Olds Cutlass. Not much for power but he had a good one and got a lot of miles on it.

Yep remember that motor, nothing to much done to that block. I remember the biggest problem was that GM did the 50,000 warranty just right (on their side) because soon after 50,000 mile the crank would break in half right in the middle.

I had an '83 Olds 98 Regency with the 5.7 diesel. Drove it for a few years. Just loved it!!!
The mileage was out of this world for a big car, but had to replace the IP 3 times. My wife couldn't stand the car anymore, so we got rid of it.
I just can't stay away from diesels.:)

Grandma and grandpa had 2 different diesel cars, a Caprice Classic and a Cutlass 4 door. The neighbors had a diesel Monte Carlo that was quite a nice rig. I had a diesel Toronado that I loved to death for the mileage and appointments, but the thing dang near broke me tinkering with it. I must have used up all the bad luck 'cause the lady I sold it to sic'd her kids on it. All it ever took after that was fuel, oil and a set of tires!!
